I remember that ad.

Thanks for posting it! Love that Super-sized BOL dryer. This must have been around 1971: I remember GE had a zillion models of everything. They had an office in a building on 42nd Street near 3rd avenue for NYC retailers and there was a huge room in it with every model of every appliance they made. I must have dragged my Mother there at least 3 times. I was the kid in the candy store. Whirlpool did the same thing a couple of years later on Way-West 57th Street.

Large load GE:

Saw an exact model copy or close to it at a resort hotel laundry back in 1988. Growing up, our first dryer was the regular size gas version of this. The console was exactly the same. Ours was bought in 1969, and lasted until 1986.

Have a good one,
James

Wow Amazing !!!

I just added it up. You could get a New...Filter Flow Washer and Dryer, Dishwasher, Range, A/C for a small room, and a Fridge for $1520. And they were built like American Made Products when we manufactuered here and We were proud of what we built. It's no wonder why we collect Vintage Stuff. I can't tell everyone enough as you already know what a Joy it it is to fire up a machine from 30 years ago and it runs like a Champ. How soothing in this day and age to remember what we once did.

I could kick myself for getting rid of one of these massive GE dryers from this era. I remember it being an Americana by GE. I had the matching washer that I just adored with the mini wash. Used such little water that it was feasable to wash a few pairs of socks in no time flat without running up a bill with utilities. If I remember correct, I rid myself of the dryer for lack of being able to get a belt for it.

Also wasn't this dryer about 1 and a half inches wider than the Kenmore dryer?

They just don't make them like they used to.

My mother had every one of the appliances pictured save for the air-conditioner, and add the GE Compactor.

My mother would not have anything but GE appliances up until 1995. We slowly replaced with Maytag after that.

ya, 1995 was the last year of the good ole GE washer huh? That's when the crappy front access come into the market for GE? I think tht's when that occurred.
