Coppetone 1966 Lady K Pics

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Now THAT ....

....Is a WASHING MACHINE.

The '65 Lady K pair is the only set that would tempt me to switch from centre-dial 'Tags or a Maytag 906 pair. I had the Lady K washer back in about 1980, but never did find the dryer. Sold the washer, and have regretted it ever since. Somewhere in the Collections pages is the ultimate - a Lady K pair of this vintage in glorious turquoise. I occasionally run across the pic on my hard drive and begin drooling.

You're a lucky boy!

Just a Thought:

The more I look at this pair of Lady Ks, the more I'm taken back in time. One of my high-school teachers used to sponsor student events that were held at her parents' house; they were quite wealthy people. Their kitchen was outfitted with the latest and greatest Kenmore everything, in coppertone. Off the kitchen, there was a laundry alcove, equipped with this identical pair. The kitchen was papered in a brown/cream/red plaid, even on the ceiling. For the late '60s, it was some punkins.

I had a thought about your timer cam drum, based in experience with broken gears in Volvo speedometers. Plastic parts of this kind can be machined to order; Delrin is the usual plastic of choice for the purpose. It costs a bloody fortune, but it can put an obsolete part back into existence. While you're good for right now, this might be a good thing to remember if you run into repeat trouble (God forbid!) later on. Any good machine shop should be able to advise you on this. However, when I said expensive, I wasn't kidding - it would be in the hundreds for something like that, because it's all precision work, much of it done by hand.

A Lady K matched pair would be worth it, though.

Oh what a beautiful washer.

Just wondering, with all the agitation at the bottom, how would this washer handle a really heavy load like jeans or a comforter?

Man, this washer is one beautiful piece of work. The dryer is sweet too. Its hard to believe that manufacturers use to put so much mechanical detail into their machines.

Those pics were taken when I first got the set. I have since cleaned up the control panels and touched up the black paint. They look much better now.

The wash action on the Lady K with the roto flex agitator is similar to the action of the Maytag Power fin (blue) agitator. I haven't tried a real heavy load--- and don't plan to. I've gone through so much time, money, and effort to restore this set that I want to preserve them as long as possibe. So no heavy "Bob Loads". Just lighter "Jim Loads".

So nice to see you again, Mister Normal ;>

You helped me get that forbidden shot of the Kelvi post-overflow rinse. Thanks for providing cover.

Can't believe you have the dream machine. I would have talked your ear off even more, had you mentioned the Holy Grail Kenmore, with a Suds-Saver, no less. So how do you like a taste of heaven on earth, Mister Frigiman?

You can't post a pic of the most coveted agitator in existence without a lenghty dissertation or a video.

I've heard that the clothes skate to the center post and fly down,

As far as I know, no one has the Rotoflex in operation except you, Jim.

So how 'bout a disseration, Baby!? ;'D Power fin won't do. Go for it!

Your photos are fabulous. I can't be the only one drooling.
