i'll say this about Gov. Sarah Palin

her husband is HOT! She has an approval rating of 90%. The highest of any governor in the nation.

One way or another. History has been made for both parties.

well,

Lots of Nazis were 'hot', too.
Personally, I am appalled. She is the worst possible choice for the democrats...and the least bad for the republicans.
Whoever made this decision (McSame's mommy?) it is not a good thing.
Let's hope she turns out to have been involved in some of the stuff going down in Alaska now.
Gad.
By the way, Nate, lots of my students in Munich are Americans, people who knew in their early teens that they could never afford to go to college in the US - so they took German in their schools and are now studying in Germany. Same with Italy, France, etc. In Europe, we spend a lot of money on education, but we don't discriminate between the poor and the rich as the Americans do...we know that brains are what count, not the size of daddy's pocketbook.
Ironically, once those American students graduate, they get snapped right up by European businesses and governments. Everybody knows that immigrants who speak fluent English are in high demand. Not Spanish.
Who'd a thunk it!

Palin

She being described as and I quote via cut and paste: "as a "religious conservative," was elected to lead Alaska in 2006 after defeating the Republican incumbent. She is strongly pro-life, opposes same-sex "marriage," and is noted for her energy policies promoting independence from big oil companies."

Imagine that, gods, gays and oil. Uh huh. Same old same old.

So they are trying to appeal to their evangelical base. But the fact that she is a woman might deter just enough of them from leaving their pew on election day. Its going to be interesting.

Well, maybe I should vote for McSame now!! The VP is a woman, she is pretty, and her husband is hot!! <:

They may as well have picked Ann Coulter, IMO

I love this quote

Palin: ". . .I can't tell you what kind of VP I will be until someone answers for me what it is exactly the VP does every day."

OH, and she is the mother of a special needs child, Down's syndrome, so she will pull the Younger vote, the Female vote, and the Parents of special needs vote. If it weren't for the fact that McCain is exploiting her, and she is allowing it; she might be a good choice.

I can't wait for the debates.

OH, I do like the place where she was charged for inappropriate firing when she had her ex-brother in law fired from the Alaska Highway Patrol. She's got moxie.

fascinating!

Panthera, that's fascinating, but no surprise.

Being for the wrong side of the tracks (in a big way!) I was LUCKY in that I went through school when you could get employer tuition assistance. So I did 2 years full time at junior college, then went to work and finished a BS and MS at night (it took 8.5 years longer to finish both of them!)

I have no idea what poor kids are doing these days. I don't even like to think it.

Some of the issues, though, come in with the idea that parents think that their kid MUST be in an exclusive private college/university, and to get in must do every possible thing you can think of. That kind of paper chase would be very, very, very draining.

Ironic that we're seeing a brain drain AWAY from the US right now, of native born students. Go figure!

Nate

Man, he picked a woman. Now we conservatives have to chose between a black dude & a chick. Both are the type of people we want to keep down. What's he doing? Trying to throw the election? (tongue firmly in cheek)

I heard that Joe Biden wrote Hussein Obama's speech for him last night. Let's listen in backstage....

Joe: "Barry, try this speech out I wrote for you."
Barry: "ok, Joe. Here goes. I have a dream....Hey wait a minute. I think I heard that before."

Joe: "Well, Barry, try this one then."
Barry: "Four score and seven years ago..., HEY! Joe you didn't write these did you?"
Joe: "ok Barry, you got me."
Barry: "Joe, by the way, I'm glad we're free of the influence of lobbyists."
Joe: "Um, Barry. We might have a problem there. You know, my son....."

All I've read on this thread is the typical liberal comeback if you oppose someone who happens to be of color. RACIST, RACIST, RACIST. I don't get that. I do not oppose B. Hussein Obama because he's black. I oppose him because of his politics and platform. Could he actually say what he's going to change? Change change change. What?

Also, Keven, you do not have to be rich to go to college in the states. There are wonderful State schools, community colleges, etc. Not everyone has to go to a private liberal arts college or the like. Also, there are grants (of which I am grateful, they helped alot), loans, etc available. What happened to getting a job and paying one's way through school? Thank God you remind us how much better Europeans/Europe are/is than we are. Just think, in this past century, in Europe if you were Jewish or gay, they had a nice place for you to stay. Showers, ovens, etc. Now, if you are not if the same ethnic persuasion as the majority, you'll be cleansed away. Think Bosnia, Serbia, etc. Europe is sooooo much better and advanced than we could ever strive to be.
Now Keven, I do agree with you that gun control means hitting your target.

"I oppose him because of his politics and platform. "

Such as? Can you cite specific examples - pulled from his actual platform, not something you read about in a chain email - that you oppose? (I've thoughtfully included a link to his policies page, so you can prepare your critique for us.)

Oh, and thanks for the article from the Reverend Moon's newspaper. Nothing like scraping the bottom of the barrel. If you support McCain, you REALLY don't want to "go there" when it comes to the issue of lobbyists.

Now that the VP-pick story has broken on the Christian Post's website and comments are starting to be posted under it, one of their readers said and I quote:

"Nice. A man who "abandoned" his first wife and is an adulterer, and a mother of five who thinks its more important to "take care of the country" as opposed to her kids.... lovely family values "

Uh huh, just what I thought. I'm starting to feel good about this choice already.

I was staying quiet, BUT . . .

Runematic, why do you make a point of using Obama's middle name? If you hate him so much just because he's not a backward republican bent on bankrupting the country, say so.

Oh, wait a minute. You don't even have the balls to post your real name in your profile so that explains why every closed-minded thing you posted above has such a hollow ring to it.

Well Ralph,

Given the information in the profile it shouldn't be to hard to track him down. At least the business. And then we know which one to avoid buying from. Using Obama's middle name is one of those things that conservative talk radio shows do. You know, Rush, Hannity and Neal Boortz. The people who usually listen to that stuff are people who have to be spoon fed and can't think for themself. They have their political ideas and thoughts assigned to them by their radio gods.

They come into the office on occassion. And they are easy to spot because they parrot what they hear on the radio and think it makes them look smart to use the phrases and cute sayings they hear from the likes of people such as Dr. Laura and Rush.

Not one original thought ever flows from them, just the sewer trash ideas they get from the radio shows.

Thanks

Now, lets see,...in business since 1935, family owned, could be Trexler. That's a great shop, over priced but I would imagine it would be a place for the McSame shoppers who could afford it. Then again I may be wrong about the shop.

Cynical, Cynical....

....I hope the Obama campaign is not "misunderestimating" McCain, because his behaviour over the past two days shows just how hard he intends to play hardball.

First, he announces that his VP pick is forthcoming right at the most important moments of the Democratic convention, taking quite a bit focus off of it.

Second, he picks a less-experienced person, who just happens to be a woman. John McCain's personal history shows clearly that he has little use for women except for um, romance and funding. The choice is obviously intended to diffuse the unique quality of the Dems' pick, a minority candidate.

Third, his choice is intended to represent "family values", when it's clear that Sarah Palin is a very politically ambitious person capable of putting career above all else. Parents with five kids - one a special-needs child - don't have time to run for national office if they're doing the parenting thing properly.

I hope that the Obama campaign will hit the cynicism of this choice harder than hard. These old-guard Republicans have finally figured out that we're on to them, seeing them as wolves in sheeps' clothing, and what do they do? They go out and find a new and different sheepskin to hide behind.

Again, just call people names that do not agree with you. Ralph, I can't use a person's given name? I knew that would get a rise out of someone. Geesh. My name has been used plenty on this site. I haven't looked at my profile for years.

Greg, I don't listen to Rush, Hannity, can't stand Dr Laura, but I do like Boortz every once-in-a-while. I have a brain and can think for myself. I listen to early country & bluegrass most days. Great little station that I advertise on. Now for not buying from me because I do not conform to your political beliefs, FINE. I am sorry I have opinions different than you. What a wonderful world this would be if we all had the same viewpoint, same ideas, yada yada yada. I come on here to enjoy old appliances. I had been avoiding this thread the whole time, but thought I'd just put my 2 cents in and add a little levity. I also had been avoiding your crying about your job. I am sorry that you might lose your job, that's never easy, but to get overly dramatic and say I'll never forget that a republican ruined this department. Well how about this. Our wonderful Democratic Gov Fast Eddy "Cheesesteak" Rendell cut the budget and removed life guards from all state park beaches. Guess what? Three kids drowned this year. I'll never forget that a democrat, Gov Rendell, killed those kids. He has blood on his hands. Sounds about the same, eh?

What is with the paranoia about Barrak HUSSEIN Obama's middle name?

Speaking of wolves in sheeps' clothing, this morning I said a prayer of thanks that McCain didn't pick Michael Huckabee.

By the way, what does my business have to do with this? I'm on here as me, not my business. I bust my ass m-f 7am to 7pm and a usually 5 hrs on Sat and then I'll come in and work in the shop every other Sunday when I am not even open. Leave my business alone.

Aint her

panties in a wad. I love to pi** off republicans. Especially when the ones who parrot people like Boortz. Using the middle name was/is one of his stunts. Aint nobody touching your little shop there rune so calm your short and curlies.

You are giving yourself too much credit. It takes a lot to piss me off. I am not a parrot (not even a parrot head. I could never get into Jimmy Buffet). Like I said, I do not listen to talk radio. I can't stand to listen to either side whining about the other side. I can actually think for myself and form my own ideas and thoughts.

The family values point is a good one, Robert. Most parents of a special-needs child (and very likely those kid's teachers) would point out that because these kids need all the attention love and time that is humanly possible, the best place for both parents to be is home, raising their children. I do hope someone poses that question to her as I'm sure there are millions of parents that would love to hear her answer.

This is the same woman that is under investigation, and what for? Ethics violations. Ding!

You go self-proclaimed "hockey-mom".

My favorite commment from the article Greg posted:

"The first official act of the Democratic candidate was to choose Joe Biden. The first official act of the Republican candidate was to choose Sarah Palin. You decide which candidate exhibits the best judgment. McCain's choice is an insult to women because he thinks that the women of this country cannot tell the difference between Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin.

Sure

Rune, keep repeating that. "I am not a parrot...

You picked up that middle name thing somewhere. Oh! Don't tell me, was that an original thought??? I doubt it.

Yes, it's good we can all express our political opinion still. At least the Bush administration was exposed for getting rid of non "bushies". No telling how far they would have gone to make everyone have the same opinions.

I remember it was Bush's grandfather who was in bed with the Nazi party back in the '30 and early '40s. He was helping them launder money for the American Nazi party even after the start of the war. He was stopped by the FBI and narrowly escaped being charged with treason. And he claimed to be a republican. That family has a long history of nasty tactics. It's only natural they would migrate to the republican party.

Nah,

Michael isn't into butch and hairy guys.
Folks, I disagree with Rune about nearly everything. But it does seem to me that we can disagree without getting personal.
Remember how, not all that long ago, I was attacked by the killer queens from this and the *other* site for daring to be pro-gun rights and, despite being a vegetarian since 1989, wearing leather and fur?
Or the attacks from the PC police for daring to enjoy double-plus good jokes about rednecks in Arkansas?
As liberals, we are supposed to be the tolerant ones, not the hateful killer queens.
There are a lot of Americans who still genuinely believe that the rest of the world is stuck in 1946, especially in Rune's part of the world. Nothing to be done about it and name calling won't do much to change things.
Our main focus needs to be on getting the uncommitted and skeptical to see why our position is the one to vote for, no?

"This is the same woman that is under investigation, and what for? Ethics violations. Ding!"

Please note: she called for the investigation HERSELF.

Now all of a sudden a bunch of Democrats are screaming "Family Values! She should stay home with her kids!" Jeez, don't try to get all Newt on us now!

Back to dancing!
