Rick~
To say that many Hillary supporters who now support McCain are racist is a bit over the top don't ya think?

No Shane, I do not think it is over the top.

Same is true with the rest of what I posted. Otherwise I would not have posted it.

everybody is going to vote how they want to vote.....

there is nothing in this thread that will change my mind. I thank McCain for his military service. I thank Obama for his service to South Chicago, almost a war zone in itself in some areas.

And I thank my brothers and their friends for their military service in the 60's, and two of our close friends who died in Vietnam.

My point is guys, serving in the military doesn't make any difference to me when I vote. Now if a guy was a high ranking General or Admiral or such, it might. But a guy flying airplanes, nope. But thanks for that service.

I want a guy that has smarts and isn't beholden to so many special interest. I don't think Obama is a perfect candidate, but hey, Ron Paul isn't running now and I liked his platform the best. So Obama is my choice. I think Obama can assemble the staff that can best manage the country and people and interest. Bush didn't do that very well with his neocons and such - the boy emperor just didn't perform. Though I like McCain in general, certainly better than any of the other Republicans, I just think he is headed in the same direction that George Bush is. And I don't really think McCain has the energy to grasp the good things from the Republican party and side-step the bad, or creatively find new directions our country needs to go. I sure wish he'd been elected 8 years ago instead of Bush. Oh well, shit happens.

Breaking News~

Not to get off Topic, but the local news is reporting that Caylee Anthony, the missing 3 year old girl from Orlando is dead.

the FBI has confirmed that DNA found in the car of the mother matches the little girl and that the FBI believes she is dead.

This is horrible news. If this mother is responsible, I hope she gets the chair.

Rick~

you are intitled to your opinion and I am intitled to mine. I sense that suggestions in your post of doubting my sincerity or honesty is a bit unfair. I hope I am wrong, since I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.

and Greg, take it easy. Do what you need to do and vote. Whatever happens is out of our hands. If Obama wins, so be it and I will give him a chance to prove me wrong. If McCain wins, hopefully you and the other doubters will do the same.

"If that hurricane heads towards New Orleans, I think it would be in poor taste to hold a convention given the poor response to Katrina 3 years ago. "

Well, Bush and Company (including McCain) pretty much set the gold standard for "poor taste" by their behavior during Katrina, so why would they cancel their convention?

When someone wants to proclaim to be the information desk I

Yes, please do and I welcome that, but be fair and make sure that Rich's info is accurate as well. Some of what he posted is mere partisan opinion and can be debated.

my sources? Answers.com and Wikipedia.com in addition to several non partisan political books written on the life and service of McCain.

Bush, Former Governor Blanco and Ray Nagin are responsible for the horrible response to Katrina. How does McCain apply to this?

Take off your partisan hack hat for a moment Dan and be fair..or can you?

Same is true with the rest of what I posted. Otherwise I would not have posted it.

Whats to doubt??

Convention Time - My Olympics!

Take it easy?? Not when it comes to my (our) country and it's place as a part in the world community. As citizens of this country, we are charged with the enormous responsibility to see that it is guided in the direction that generations upon generations before us hoped for. One of the best things I've seen in this DNC convention is the references to our history and the progress that we have made. Landmark freedoms have been granted to our citizens, many times paid for with the blood. We have set an example for ourselves that billions of people can only hope for. I will do everything I can to see that at least my vote will stand on the side of history that generations from now can point to and be proud of. I truly believe you have the right to see the world differently, and speak what you believe as long and as loud as you like - I will even hold the synthetic detergent box while you climb up. We will listen to you, but expect dissent and heated debate - that's what we're supposed to do, another obligation of freedom. We are at a point in our country's history that we cannot afford another four years of waiting to do the right thing. The gloves are off and the floor is open, let's debate!

(Shane - I still have those blender jars, send me your address ;-)

OK enough

I'm putting my Confederate Battle flag back up (with all due respect to rickr) -as a sign of rebellion againt the last 8 years. And all you "republicans" kiss my hot dirty a*********

Got the message? If McCain wins then all I can say is God please send us another John Wilkes Booth.

OK Keven, stirred it up enough? Are you happy???

Please...

Please, lefts not go down the JWB path.

As an Independent I have so much vitriol I'd like to spew at the R's, I can honestly say I cannot foresee EVER voting for an R again. I can't see voting a straight ticket either so the Greens, Libertarians and who ever else is running will be getting some of my votes.

I am both sad and angry about the state of this Nation. Sad that it has come to this, and angry that so many idiots voted (and didn't vote) to let this happen. This is not the country I was born and raised in, this is a nightmare, and a Neocon's dream. Greed rules, and back room deals rule. Rights are taken away with a smile and a pat on the head, "Now, Now, trust us..." Like Hell.

Back in 2000 I didn't like Bush, but I wasn't overly upset he was appointed, I thought he was a simpleton and things would run on auto pilot until the next election --we all know how that turned out. I actively worked against him in 2004, and if McCain wins this year I'm looking at all my options. This will no longer be a country I'm proud of, the Neocons and the Religious nuts will have taken over. I'm 45 minutes from Canada, and that option will look mighty inviting if McCain is pres.

Oh Greg...

Don't get all worked up about Republicans. Even my father who's voted Republican all my life won't vote for McCain. His reasoning...we can't have more years of Bush. Now everyone get the younger folks to go vote. One things certain, the church busses get rollin' for the elections!

And back to the convention itself . . .

I was just thinking tonight how the networks are only airing highlights in the evenings. PBS seems to be carrying some of it live. I'm working with antenna reception so cable isn't an option for me currently.

But I was remembering how growing up, the game shows and soaps were pre-empted during the days while the respective conventions were held. During the summer when we kids were at home and nobody had or "needed" cable, whether we liked it or not we were exposed to the process. The networks made sure everybody was.

Today, it's very easy for millions of citizens to never see a minute of convention coverage on TV. I'm not saying we should all be force fed this stuff (and I'm sure CSPAN is providing nonstop coverage for cable/dish subscribers), but how can the opposite be a good thing either?

Meanwhile, I thought Bill Clinton's speech was superb tonight. I suspect people will be quoting his "power of our example vs example of our power" remark for quite some time.

Glad to say IMHO the Democrats are picking up steam, from what I have watched on CNN, the Clinton's stepped up and endorsed Barak Obama, healing the split in the Dem. party this is a good thing. I have to admit I teared up when Beau Biden told his families story of the horrible car accident that took his Mother and Sister on a Christmas tree shopping trip, Lets give Senator Obama and Senator Biden a chance, Many of us have, bitched and groaned for the last 8 years. I plan to vote for Obama and Biden. It's just the right thing for me to do. arthur

Scarier than McCain

If McCain picks Romney as VP, he better watch out for banana peels at the top of the stairs in the White House....

"Sometimes Delores, an accident can be an unhappy womans best friend. ..."

I'm sure there are a number of good reasons Obama has shied away from Mrs. Cl*tty as a running-mate.

The propensity for "accidents" befalling him to rise astronomically and exponentially in number may be one of them.
