Detergent aisle in Slovenia and Croatia

The most popular detergents here are: PERSIL, ARIEL and REX as a more budget choice. LUNA is also very good, but expensive. AVA is also a budget choice, but is good.
Gansky1, I think the most expensive is the italian DASH. The most popular liquid brands are Woolite or Perwoll and are available also in XXL bottles.

Steve-Twinniefan- all powders are in plastic bags. Our powders are all concentrated "Eurocompact". (130 or 150 ml for a normal soiled load) We don't have Ultra concentrated (3x or 4x) powders in small cardboard boxes. I remember 10 and even more years ago in Italy were available Ultra detergents, but here we are not used to those formulations for powders.

(storing) I think a lot of us use a special plastic container for the laundry detergent or an old detergent cardboard box for storing the powder.

A question for you: In different pictures in the Croatian and Slovenian stores, some of the liquid bottles (Fax, Persil, Rex, Max, and Ariel) have a clear or opaque cap that looks like a "bubble."

Is this some sort of measuring or dispensing device?

Rolls rapid, interesting question, Plavi RADION (Blue RADION) was a legendary brand in socialistic Yugoslavia. It is on sale since 1956. It is high sudsing and it was used in impeller or twin tube washers and for the boil wash. Now you can use it for hand washing. It is still made by Saponia but at the beginning the company made products under the licence of Lever Brothers so some correlations are possible, but in fact it is something completely different.

Spiralator, yes right the bubble ball is the dispenser you put along the load you wash.

Darren, in pic.3 of the croatian aisle in the middle there are some Persil color. Green Persil is regular blue is with softener (Silan) and white is sensitive. In the middle of the slovenian pic. 3 is also a purple bottle and it is a Silan softener (aromatherapy)

Twinniefan: you'll see lots of different packagings (for any type of product) around the world, somewhat correlated on the wealth of the country you're visiting and of what sells.... Comparing North America with countries in South America, you see larger packages (lower income countries have more people buying smaller sizes) and more packaging (higher income countries can afford more packaging),

On a simple level, you see bagged detergent in less wealthy countries and boxed in wealthier countries

Thanks for the photos, Ingemar! I like the detergent called "Rex". I wonder if your version of Tide is the same as ours? Glad to see you still have a lot of powdered detergents on the store shelves. It is quite the opposite in the USA, where liquids completely dominate the market.

Jamiel, Italy is a wealthy country but their powdered detergents are also bagged.
Well, Slovenia is not Swiss or Norway, if you mean this, but I think there are also other cultural habits to consider.

Wow! You have so much selection! My question is in going to another country, do you have to pay any import tax on returning with your purchases? I also will add that IMHO, Europe is much ahead of the USA in making packaging that has less impact on the environment, aka the landfill. Look at Tetra-pacs, etc... Greg

Nice selection of detergents, do you like Faks? The green Helizim Faks is one of the best detergents I have used, really nice scent, cleans well and rinses out very well.
I also like Duel, work well on whites and has a nice enough scent.
Duel is hard to find here in Northern Europe, but Faks is a bit more common, especially in Sweden.

Frigilux, our version of Tide is not the same as yours. I've noticed that the scent of the regular liquid Tide is the same as the German Meister Propper I brought home some months ago from Germany. (fantastic scent!) The scent of the color liquid Tide is the same as the Italian Dash salva colore. Our liquid are made in France and the powders are made in Czech Republic.

Luxflairguy, I don't have to pay any import tax for the purchase in the grocery store.

xcj, yes I like Faks Helizim. It always was the best detergent here, befor others entered the market. But it is still very good!

Thanks for sharing these pictures Ingemar. Slovenia and Croatia is a part of the world I would love to visit one day. Can you tell us what washing machines are popular there? I should imagine that Gorenje has a huge market share, but what models are on the floor of a Slovenian store?

I also understand that in Slovenia you have Harvey Norman.

bajaespuma, the bridge in question is in Bosnia Herzegovina the city is Mostar and its in the south of that country. Beautiful place in pictures.

Bajaespuma, hi, I live in Slovenia near the Italian "border". (we are part of the European Union, so there are no more borders)
Arrrooohhh is right the bridge is in Mostar in the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina which is now (since 1992) another Country. I've never been there but now that it has been rebuild it's sure a beautiful place.

Arrrooohhh, we have the same washers as the rest of Europe. Front loaders or horizontal asix top loaders. A lot of households owns the dryer especially in the continental part of the country which is more cold. Gorenje as the national brand has the biggest market share. The second most popular brand is Bosch and then Electrolux. (...Beko, Candy, Indesit)
Yes you are right we have Harvey Norman and you can see a few Fisher & Paykel fridge, but no washing machines It would be nice, but we are not used to agitator top loaders. Most of the people don't know of the existance of agitator top loaders here in Europe. Harvey Norman stores are really beautiful!
