Because that wasn't me.

BA yelled at me this morning for leaving her hanging last night. I yelled back that she needed to tell me what the hell she was talking about. She yelled that I left her in the chatroom.

Funny thing is, I was never IN the chatroom last night. Apparently, someone used my name. Since there's no password or anything, I guess anyone can use anyone's name.

Just something to think about for the future. I think it's sad that someone in our group would do something like that. Pretty low if you ask me.

Well I was there....

Hell...I was the Hostess with the Mostess last night. Drunk as a skunk, going downhill and picking up speed. Other than what happened below...I had a total blast....
But...
I am not going to go into details here on what went on in there. But OMG....I can say this....more drama than One Life to Live.
This is not the first time it's happened. In fact, this kind of things happens every damn time I am in that chatroom, which isn't often. It's NOT my fault, so don't blame me. I am as innocent as the pure driven snow. LOL

Someone comes in with some strange nick, or the nick of one of the users of this forum...starts slamming certain folks, talking really nasty. I mean, nasty and very deragatory things. Not nice.

It pisses me off to hear such things, and I don't even know most of you guys, in person. (Phone doesn't count)
I know the ISP can be checked.
Robert (Uni)...any comments?

Im getting off the soapbox...Im hung-over @ work. Not fun! LOL

The Chat Room has nothing to do with this website, Glenn was kind enought to set it up for members here to use and it is run on a completely different server so I have no access to it. Nor do I have any desire to have access to it.

I didn't do the "666 Chat" last night for *obvious reasons* (just kidding), but I still think it's ridiculous when someone blatently posts under someone else's name, especially when they could say just about anything. Did whoever it was NOT see the red-letter warning below? "IP addresses and chat conversations are logged and can be retrieved in case of complaints." Perhaps Glenn can get last night's conversation?

Password-protected usernames would be a great idea.

And slamming members...hmmm, seems like that happened last time when I WAS in there.

I wonder if this was the same person (*ahem* Cleanfresh *ahem) that was calling us "heathens" last time and saying we were going to "go to hell" and all that? How ironic...

Just for the record... I was in there about two min or so. A little birdy told me that apparently another BA was in there also... After I said goodnite ( the first time) I never came back. So if someone was saying something mean it wasn't me. I'm just a smartass you know!

ye gods and little fishes

I have often wanted to stop off in the chat room - but with the time difference somehow never managed it.
IP addresses may well be logged, but they are next to useless unless you are a federal agency with resources and time.
The (sadly) best thing to do would be to set up some sort of screening and passwords.
*sigh*
I am always astonished how well this site works and thankful that there are so few problems. I strongly suspect this has a lot to do with Robert putting in much more time and effort to keep it up and going than we even know.
(Big thank you to him for that.)
Since my interest in the chat room is relatively minor, I won't pester Glenn about it - but if anybody wants to get a "Rundbrief" up and going with the request, I'd be happy to sign on.
Actually - long as I'm ranting away, I used to be very active on a wonderful site. It got "discovered" by the christianists (a lovely word for the nasties who define their love of their tri-partite god through hate) and within two weeks all of us just gave up and left...four years gone in two weeks.

A single global password wouldn't do any good. There's no mechanism in place to control/prevent access by individual user passwords.

There are logs, both of the chat coversation and of IPs tied to nicknames and time/date of entrance (or it may be time/date of exit). I haven't yet read through the conversation, but I have the IP log perused, formatted and ready for reveal. Shall I post it and let the bits and bytes fall where they may?

Yes; let everyone know that the emperor has NO clothes! ;-)

Personally I would like to see the conversation as well. If it is unsuitable for posting on here (which I am led to believe it is), I would like to see it by email.

For those who think they can slip under the radar even with the IP addresses provided for the nicknames in the chatroom, they're DEAD WRONG. We have ways...;-)

I had no idea

I've seen a few posts referencing chat, but have never gone there, not sure I even know how. The idea that someone from this group could be responsible is just scandelous. Why would anyone want to discredit or just plain slam anyone here? My experiences thus far with everyone here have been nothing but positive. This place, that Robert works so hard to maintain, is just like a beautiful extended family. I've never seen so many who give to others selflessly, always offering advice and spare parts and a heads up when another treasure is spotted. I may not participate as much as others here, but I feel the bond that so many of you share. It's just heartbreaking to know that there is a vile betrayal in the air.
I would like to know who it was as well.
I guess I could have just said that and been done but I felt the need to express a little first.

I showed up late (10 pm PST) but the room was empty by then.

Suggestion for when someone shows up to disrupt the conversation: I believe the chat software includes the option to "ignore" a user. Just ignore the offender and continue. Once you do that, you won't see their comments. If everyone were to do that, the offender would realize he or she isn't getting the attention they crave and will eventually leave of their own volition.

Interesting, it seemed to be a rather proper group when I got in around 9:30 PST, though did leave before 10 p.m. A rather spirited conversation about coffeepots and Fords from the 1960s.
