I don't know why but I keep having this continuing dream about opening up a chain of "Dish O'Mats".These are just like coin operated laundries but for dirty dishes instead of clothes. There are also "Dish O'Mat"Mobile Maids that are step vans with 5 dishwashers hooked up ready to go to neighborhoods and apartment complexes. In a hurry? We also had China and ironstone dinnerware rental.A service for 8 or 12 in bone china or ironstone oven to table to dishwasher to rent via dishrack including the flatware for $9.99/set/day.Then we also had the cookware for $12.99/set (Farberware)each set included 3 saucepans and 2 skillets. All with their lids.Believe it or not, business was booming. What a concept! As the dream continues,I have a hard time staying asleep because I wind up laughing so hard,it wakes me up.

Mobile Dishwashing

Is a reality in Munich, Germany. We have very strict laws on the use of throw-away dishes and cutlery (Styrofoam, etc.) and mandating re-usables for all government sponsored and commercial enterprises (as a private party, can have a barbecue in the park with throw-aways).
There are lots of vans set up with portable dish washing/catering services which can be rented for events. One company has bright red vans with cute slogans - in summer, you see them all over the place.
I bet there are a lot of women who would love to have a service which came in to cook, clean, do the dishes and diapers every so often. Might be a good business idea!

YOU STOLE MY IDEA!!! ;)

I think I posted something to this nature a while back. My idea was to have trucks go around in neighborhoods sort of like the milk man did and pick up the dirty dishes in the evening, and leave fresh clean dishes for the family to use. The dirty dishes would then be taken back to the truck were they could be washed either on board the truck, or at a central dish-o-mat like you mentioned.

I take my RV to a seasonal campground during the summer and hang out there on the weekends. In most campgrounds, they have dishwashing areas with sinks, hot water, and tables usually somewhere near the bath houses so guests can wash their dishes. I want to extend this idea, and think it would be prophitable to install coin-op dishwashers in campgrounds and RV parks that guests could just simply go up to and stick their dirty dishes in, plop in a few quarters, and come back an hour later to fresh clean dishes :) When one is RV camping, the idea is to relax, not to spend all the day working and doing chores!

ideas

I just thought of those ideas. I think the dishes could be compartmentalized when they're loaded safely and securely. This includes silverware. It would smell like Cascade and Finish products, including their power dry, jet dry, platinum plus in the mountain scent and ultimate. These ideas are long overdue, and I've thought about that for years.

Nope

Absolutely not! Such a terrible idea. Why on earth would I ever want to carry dishes out to a dish mat? Chances to trip over and break the dishes, wastes more time and money than just washing dishes by hand, and who knows what's been inside the dishwashers from other people. Either I wash the dishes by hand or I have my own dishwasher installed especially one where I can only wash my vacuum parts inside. Sorry to be the wet blanket here but I really don't see a market for this, there's just too many downfalls than there are advantages.

and who knows what's been inside the dishwashers..

That's reminded me of a TV documentary, that I caught a tiny bit of years ago. They were filming a posh horse obsessed mom and daughter, they had loaded their horse brasses into the top rack of their dishwasher amongst the breakfast dishes and crockery, et-al, and hadn't even rinsed the straw and the you know what off!

They said it got them clean and shiny without all the time and effort polishing them.
