Hello, what are motor bearings within a dishwasher?

I was told that the reason my Kenmore Elite dishwasher became so loud was because it needs new motor bearings, but the repairman told me it is not worth replacing them as the machine is older, and just to wait for it to die.

Could you please explain to me what these are, and does pose a hazard to my house to just leave the dishwasher until it dies?

Can it die from not replacing the bearings?

Thanks

I pressume its like the motor bearings in a washing machine, they very rarely go, and there's no hazzard, just it'll increase in noise, and can eventually collapse, usually resulting in the motor malfunctioning.
If its only just started making the noise, then don't worryzbout it, all items, including Humans (us) get creaks, clicks, wear out with age!

You didn't cite the brand/model of your dishwasher.  Always prudent to include that info when asking a question about an appliance.

Bearings in a motor, of course, are to allow the rotating parts to turn without undue friction and wear.  Unlikely the bearings in your machine's motor can be replaced directly ... the entire motor and/or pump assembly usually must be replaced.

Bearing failure on a dishwasher motor typically is caused by a seal on the pump mechanism going bad.  Water gets into the bearing, washes out or fouls the lubrication and the bearing eventually rusts and seizes ... so yes, the dishwasher will sooner-or-later come to screeching halt.
