I was born in 1962. When I was a child long about 1966, 67 my mom had a white 40 in. electric Frigiadire stove. Oven on right side. Another door on left that stored pots & pans. She had this heavy aluminum griddle thar plugged directly into the dash of the stove. She explained that stove did not actually with a griddle and the men at the took the funky looking power outlet off the old stove and installed in on the new stove so she could continue using that griddle. Does anyone remember those griddles? Does anyone have a photo they would share with me?

Westinghouse and Hotpoint had griddles like that. Only the power came from the range via that special receptacle. The thermostat was part of the griddle. These griddles were more powerful than the type that plugged into a household outlet, running close to 2000 watts. The Westinghouse griddle was positioned in the center of their split cooktop while Hotpoint's sat on the right of the cooktop with the burners at the left. The Westinghouse griddle appeared in 1958 when they redesigned their ranges, but is not even mentioned as an accessory in the 1964 line. After Hotpoint went to the divided cooktop, I don't know if they offered a plug-in griddle. In an old Ozzie and Harriet episode, the boys are having a party and Harriet is serving burgers from the griddle on her TOL Hotpoint range. They sure loved their Hotpoint all electric kitchen. After Rick released his first album, the fence around their property had to be electrified, too because girls kept trying to sneak in.
