Yes, we have malted milk balls
here in the USA. They're branded as "WHOPPERS"!! A sponge cake here is unique from a regular British layer cake batter. It is lighter, yellow, and has more holes to absorb juices, sauce, or syrups. It is not like a genoise sponge either. In the UK, all cake batter is referred to as "sponge".
