Hi Mike (Pararunner58) the cake is a simple sponge 2 x 9 inch sponges cut in halve , so its 4 layers filled with fresh cream, then a chocolate buttercream layered all over and then final decoration lots of malteasers ,
not sure if you have them or under another name . they are honeycomb balls covered in chocolate, too moorish.

I did this a few years ago when we had a family party and my nieces where teens and getting interested in cooking so was great to make this with them and get them to build it and decorate as well.

Yes, we have malted milk balls

here in the USA. They're branded as "WHOPPERS"!! A sponge cake here is unique from a regular British layer cake batter. It is lighter, yellow, and has more holes to absorb juices, sauce, or syrups. It is not like a genoise sponge either. In the UK, all cake batter is referred to as "sponge".

Where To Start -

Good morning Launderess, at the beginning lol, you where missed as you usually check in on all things twintubs and ironers. Yes we do have fun meeting up but will leave the analogy of who is who to guesswork ha ha.

Looking forward to using the ironers myself when we can all get out of lockdown and start meeting up again.

Thank you for the info for that cake. My wife would love it, whoppers are one of her favorite candies. When she was younger, they lived close enough to the downtown area of the city we lived in. On Saturdays she would walk down the the Woolworth Store and buy them at the candy counter.
