Easy Whirldry Part 2

I finally found the time to finish my Whirldry. I posted a video link below. Here are a few things I have learned about this washer:

1. It agitates at 144 strokes per minute.
2. It spins at 490 revolutions per minute.
3. The motor is completely and easily serviceable. It is easy to oil and replace the brushes.
4. Tipping the washer to change the belt or access the motor will cause oil to spill from the transmission breather holes.
5. Transmission oil seals are still available.
6. The old brushed 1/6 HP motor will make your kitchen smell like ozone.
7. If the washer is overfilled, it will flood the transmission with water. I added a "Max Fill" line to prevent this.
8. The original rubber feet very degraded. The washer would "walk" when agitating.

what great memories! I had a Easy whirldry washer given to me when I was almost a teen, and thought it was great. I have been toying with the idea of finding another one to add to the collection.

The glory of the Easy

Amazing all the work and trouble you went through to restore that little guy. Toby, I've never see one work that well or move so fast. Your efforts paid off in spades. Who wouldn't want one of those cuties whirling away on the counter. No wringer, no hand-wringing, just spinning. Mind-boggling that Easy made such an able machine so long ago. What a great restore.

Thanks! I'm glad that you think that I got it right. I've never even seen a video of one of these in operation, so I had no benchmark to compare against.

Does anyone know what was the first washer to both agitate and spin in the same tub? I'm thinking the Whirldry might be one of the first.

Great work! Thanks for posting. What kind of oil did you put in the tranny? I've got one of these in garage that I need to fix one of these days.

I am going to have to see if the Chocowinity swap shop still has theirs-and buy it,take it home-the video is inspirng me to get it.Good little machineto play with and for those pesky tiny loads!

Oil

I can see no reason why the transmission would require a super-thick oil. If yours is in good shape, you could probably use SAE-50. Mine had some corrosion on the pulley drive shaft due to the water in the transmission. This corrosion was right at the oil seal. I polished out the corrosion, but even with a new oil seal, mine still leaked ever so slightly. As a result, I kept experimentally thickening the oil using Lucas Engine Oil Stop Leak until I found the point where it no longer leaked. In the end, mine is running about 6 oz of SAE-50 and 6 oz Lucas Engine Oil Stop Leak.
