wow.

Ok, normally I would say eating healthy is over rated, ( I'm a fan of Julia child and the 2 fat ladies, plenty of butter and cream, lol.)

However, this looks delicious! Drat, now I'm hungry, lol.

Kevin ...

… eating "healthy" IS eating butter and cream.

Eating UNHEALTHY is eating chemicals.

A good rule of thumb: If God made it -- it's good for you. If MAN made it -- it's most likely NOT good for you.

Julia's Cooking

I think much of Ms. Child's cooking is quite healthy with "whole" ingredients (as long as you don't overdo the butter and cream at every meal). As well as delicious (I say after finishing my lunch of roasted fennel and cheese leftovers!)!

I don't think there is usually anything wrong with most foods, as long as you do some form of exercise to burn almost the same amount of calories as you are eating everyday, and mix the type of food you eat by including fruit, nuts and fish.

butter and cream.

Most people I know are rather horrified by my diet, I eat terribly rich things, cook with real butter and cream, use real cream in my coffee, etc. When I point out what I eat is far more natural, they ask about calories.

I say the French had it right, a small serving of something very rich is far more satisfying than a huge helping of some sad fake food. In all truth, it works. I never exercise, outside of what comes from normal daily activities, and I'm more likely to be seen inside the starship enterprise than inside a gym, yet I maintain a healthy weight, have perfect cholesterol, and eat whatever I want. The key difference is, I eat what I want, I don't gorge on it.

and as a bonus..

The added bonus of this diet? Even though I smoke like a chimney, I'm aging far better than my "healthy" siblings, who don't smoke, slather everything in margarine, eat low fat diet sugar free snacks by the box full, etc. I am the oldest, I just turned 29. My brother and sister both look older than me now, and I'm often mistaken for being younger than 29, lol.

Ignore calories ...

A calorie is NOT "a calorie".

Everyone wants to boil it down to calories, but it's the wrong focus.

The body will process 500 calories' worth of olive oil far differently than it would 500 calories' worth of jelly beans.

When I was 75 pounds heavier, I restricted myself to a 1200 calorie diet and worked out like an athlete -- punishing 90 minute workouts 6 days a week. My blood pressure was 140/100, and my cholesterol (despite my vegan diet!) was over 200.

Today -- 75 pounds lighter -- cholesterol is 95 -- blood pressure is consistently 110/60. NO drugs whatsoever. I eat a 3800 calorie a day diet -- mostly calorie-dense foods like coconut oil, eggs, nuts, and peanut butter (I go through about a jar of peanut butter every other day, and about 2 dozen eggs a week).

And I'm ashamed to admit -- I'm lucky if I get to the gym twice a week anymore.

Jar of peanut butter every other day---You need to make your OWN!!!Get a Vita-Mix or Blendtec blender-then get the cocktail peanuts from the snack isle at any grocery store.Put them into the blender-blend them until liquid and hot.CAREFUL-this is good right out of the blender while hot--THIS is peanut butter-not the chemical laden peanut flavored "margerine" you buy at the store.I have been making my own peanut butter for years-you can use an old peanut butter jar to put your homeade type in-then put it in the 'fridge.Use like regular peanut butter-SO MUCH BETTER AND BETTER FOR YOU!!!Around here you can use peanuts right from a farm-really good. You have to shell them first of course.

Peanut butter ...

"THIS is peanut butter-not the chemical laden peanut flavored "margerine" you buy at the store."

I don't buy the chemical-laden stuff. Only the all-natural stuff. This is my favorite:

Yes!

Lots of protein: fish, eggs, cheese, nuts, and seeds.

Lots of vegetables: green and root.

Lots of fruit: mostly apples, oranges, bananas, pears, and berries.

Not a whole lot of starches, though. I've eliminated all wheat products from my diet (except organic wheat), and prefer to bake my own breads out of millet and almond flour.

I still eat a lot of sweets, but mostly stuff I make myself: puddings, cookies, and cakes, mostly sweetened with either stevia, raw honey, or maple syrup.

I eat a lot of coconut oil too; i make my own chocolate out of it.

And I do eat a lot of chocolate, but only the very best stuff that contains no artificial anything, and most importantly, no soy.
