Some good suggestions are in here. I 100% AGREE with Matt (NYCWriter) on what he has said.
~ Make your own food or buy as close to 100% natural/organic as you can. That way, you eliminate the toxic food chain that humans seem to have come to depend on so very much. In a way, its disgusting.
~ Don't bother with Food Pyramids and other bogus dietary statistics, including that utter Bullspit from your Heart Foundation, who say saturated fats are bad for you (http://www.heartfoundation.org.au/healthy-eating/fats/Pages/saturated-fats.aspx).
Yeah, I think they either mean the PROCESSED sh*t we stuff in our pie-holes or are justing BS'ing altogether (Upgraded members might recall the Catalyst series linked to in "Dirty Laundry").
~ If you want to eat meat, eat whatever suits your preference, but ensure that it is high-quality product from an independent butcher or farmer's market if you can do so. Don't eat more servings larger than the palm of your hand is a good rule though - since meats (particularly processed meats, like Sandwhich Meats and Deli meats) have been linked to bowel cancers (*Not cause!)
~ Completely REMOVE most dairy products, sparing yoghurt and butter OUT of your diet. If Human's were meant to be drinking milk as grown adults, Nature (or God) would have provided some means for us to breast-feed. Obviously, this is NOT the case. Milk is laden with antibiotics, hormones and unless you get good stuff, doesn't taste all that flash either.
I've even heard that our dietary foods are a better source of minerals than Cow's Milk - since it is boiled to death to save the old folk without immune systems before shipping.
~ If you are worrying about Cholesterol, DON'T. Another study based on cherry-picked data. My local Pharmacist claims that I'm wrong (Yeah, 3 degrees and still can't see how selective they were in the 7 Countries Study). Its another scam to sell you supposed "Health foods" like Margarine, and Cholesterol-reducing drugs.
On an interesting side note, if you do the research on Margarine, it was actually much nicer when originally conceived by the French Chemist. It was made from a blend of animal fats and skim-milk, I believe. Of course, that became in-ecnonomical, and was dropped in favour of various unstable vegetable oils - including Canola (or "Rapeseed"), the plant with lovely poison in it...
