Hi Darren
I'm sorry if I've overstepped the mark, I was left with the impression after the progress made by Paul, myself and others back in October that it was a bit of a challenge for all of us and the machine was left at Als for the collective rather than anyone "owning" it, so as it was a bit of a repair weekend, I thought it would be an opportunity to further the start made during the haloween get together, as obviously I'm keen to see this working again and others were busy with other repairs. Following the rinse and spin test, it was put on a wash with the thoughts of seeing if the heater worked or tripped out, it filled and heated so we just let it run. So I would call it a test rather than a first or maiden wash.
So I apologise again, I don't know when I'll be up at Als again, possibly not until the autumn, If you'd rather I didn't do anymore that's fine or maybe we can work together when we meet next.
Rolls, I will look at a new wave boot, but it does have the opening for the fill flume, and remembering the boot fits to a rim on the inside of the outer tub rather than a lip on the front like any other machine I can think of, can you think of one with an internal clamping for the boot, I'm open to suggestions.
Also i don't think your question was answered about the round oven type knob in the centre of the door bowl, it unscrews so extra detergent can be added once the wash is underway, these came out before low suds powders were popular, so rather than over dose, you added the main dose with the load then judged if you needed extra, stopped the machine and using a table spoon you could drop some more in. "Which" said about adding forgotten items through the hole, well you could push a sock etc in but this wasn't its intended use, and 50 plus years before the samsung add wash lol.
And to echo Nigel, my Rolls doesn't have handles on the lids, and from the strain you can hear on the spinner if you run water through the hole, I would think frequent spray rinsing would soon burn out the motor.
