Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Well done Gary, the Logic dryer is nice, but wow, fantastic you've found a widebody! You must have a hell of a big boot in your car!

Looks gorgeous even before cleaning, at this rate you're gonna have to name your garage Keymatic Korner or summat!

Mike, looking forward to thread, just what are these new treasures? After seeing your HMDL I've spent the last week or so doing outstanding jobs on mine in shame!!!

Hope you fellas are having a good time!

NO EFFIN LED lights

Well at last some who thinks like I do, I cant stand LED Christmas lights, like Gary I only have proper lights on the Christmas tree most are over 10 years and one set are over 40 years with real bulbs which if you bump the tree the lights go out, so give it a good shack and on they come.

LEDs

Hello Lee that being the case there are 3 of us then add MAT from Cardiff, he is as obsessed with old lights and decs and me

I love em, one set of lights i have the bases are made of metal and if you move them too much you get a loveley tingle off them, just the thing for nosey kids!

Old lights bring them on :-)

OOVAH! Restorations

Fist the Tumble dryer, a quick service and it works beautifully possibley the best dryer i have used, the full auto sense feature works perfectly i dried 3 loads in it and they all came out uncreased and dried to perfection, this is one machine i am glad to have paid what i did for.

The Keymatic

ahhh hmm where to begin..................
1st
Leaks from just about every place it is possible to leak from, some were easy and some where an absolute F**kin Swine the worst to do being the front of the tub which is full of concrete, this had rusted at the base and was dripping water onto the thermostat near it (one blown fuse), getting it off was easy, cleaning it up and de-rust treatment folowed by huge amount of gaskett maker was easy aswell, but getting it back in place whilst trying to get the securing clamp back on aswell was a job i dont want to do on my own again, a few cups of tea, 20 fags and a load of choice words got it back on.
The rim that holds the door rubber on has also rusted so that had to be carefully cleaned up de-rusted.

The water level pressure switches were playing up so it would over fill, the main problem being the pressure hose and one of the switches had an air leak

The water inlet hoses to the soap draw were perished so again they were pouring water every where

In the meantime Mat from Cardiff emailed me some wiring diagrams and a program flow chart so i could make some sense of the wiring and the programing (thanks Mat)

The machine started to work today but it popped another fuse whilst heating, the mains plug went black, on inspection the mains cable insulation had dried up and had crumbled to dust, so another cable was fitted

So to date I have now done a complete pre-wash without any of the afore mentioned problems...........thats an achievement after the 3 days i have spent tinkering and fiddling and fixing it :-) and there is still loads to do

This machine has been a complete learning curve compared to the later automatics by Hoover, it is a fascinating machine in its mechanical complexity and i am sure once all is sorted will be an excellent machine

I have attached a few pix of todays repair to the tub front and see how filthy the machine is now.........

Pre-Wash

well this is the result of all the effort, a very very sudy wash, the inside of the tub and the drum are coated in lime scale and washing powder deposits ;-(

We are so alike, no patience, just get it plumbed in and wired up, then start mopping up the flood and replacing the fuses.

Love seeing this type of restoration.

keep up the good work

Magnificent

Hi Gary,

I'm also the eager type, rushing into it then learning from your mistakes along the way. The early Keymatic's were in someway's far out relations to cars and the likes by having a clutch. Make sure your load will be a balanced one as these machines are known for jumping about when it comes to spinning.

James.

Wowzer!

You sure you couldnt repair that original cable? lol.

It looks like its coming along good ..... roll on the ever so gentle attack of astonish.

Epic!

Wow Gary, looks like you put in a lot of graft over those three days, very impressive! Hope that most of its issues have been dealt with.

And that is one scary mains lead! Guess it looked fine from the outside? I've seen 1950s Hoover flexes crumble like that, but never on something so 'modern'! Glad neither you or the machine were hurt!

Think your part of Saltash will need renaming Keymatic Korner or something, hehehe!

Try and try again

Well after another couple of sessions i have now finally got the machine to do a complete wash all the way through without any leaks or anything else playing up.

Firstly a few fots of the replaced mains cable and the water level pressure switch which has given so many problems

The Pressure Switch

This gitting thing took 3 attempts with Araldite to finally seal it, the plastic back had loads of tiny fractures in it which were letting the air slowly escape creating havoc later on in the wash program.

Oh yes I forgot

i also havent mentioned that the rubber hose from the tub to the pressure bottle was leaking aswell so i had to replace that, along with the connecting pipe work, i went overboard and used silicon breather pipe and jubilee clips, thinking i had had enough of leaks!

Different Designs

Let me say that every wash program on this machine has a pre-wash (wether you want it or not), some are heated (32o) and some are not, fill, 3-1/2 minute tumble and pump out. the heated ones take longer.

electron1100++11-15-2010-13-42-25.jpg

Temp

this machine heats and tumbles until it has reached the program temperature (40o) and being the obsessive git i am i checked it and it was spot on (thank christ)it then proceeds through a few more wash action stages

Pre-Rinse Fill

Once it has finished the main wash it then fills to high level before pumping out and going into the 4 high level rinse cycles, it has no compartment for fabric conditioner so you either add that to the last rinse or let it run throughand then select the "special treatments" programme and add the conditioner that way

Hi Gary

new internal pipework too!

Can tell you have become rather attached to your new acquisition and all power to your elbow in its restoration.

Oh to have the tinker and repair skills of you, Lee and Mathew - formal master classes please!
