FINALLY! ANOTHER CHILDHOOD MACHINE FOUND!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

The machines I use most in the shed at the moment are the WD23 and 9534. The Hoover takes longer to wash because of the style of timer and the amount of water used so I use the WD23. Used the dryer on the WD23 tonight for the second time, it is apparent that 60 minutes for a medium load of bath towels is too short. Either that or the valve has failed but I will know this Friday.

Valve Failure...

Hi Mike,

When examining the machine last Friday it became obvious that the valve that feeds the condenser with that all important trickle of water had failed. I wasn't prepared to shell out for an entire new 3-way cold valve so instead after I copped on that the solenoids are removable I just replaced the dead solenoid with a working one off one of my many spare Hotpoint washing machine valves. Now that the water was trickling into the condenser allowing the dryer to operate correctly I was able to dry two bathmats in 70 minutes yesterday evening. More than likely that load of towels will be done in 60 minutes now. It is fairly normal for these valves to fail because unlike the other valves used during the wash programme which are only on for a few minutes at a time the condenser valve is on for up to 100 minutes. I will have to dig out either my Spinarinse or Hotpoint spinner again and re-commission them.

just bought a Hotpoint WD22 from ebay for 99p as a non runner, just checked the bearings and all is good, whipped the lid off and saw the carbon deposits on the drum, removed the brushes and they are worn out, gave them a little tug just to test them and it sprang into life!(new brushes on order) tried the dryer function and there was a noticable thunking noise from the dryer motor fan a quick strip and clean showed the fan was only loose!removed 18 years of lint and it spins smoothly and quietly again, cracked open a beer!
noticed one of the water feed hoses has rubbed through and crudely repaired with tape where it passes over the heater jacket(surprised theres no insulation?) will replace that ,check the solenoids remove and clean the pump (may even get my money back out of the filter lol!)got 54p and 2 underwires out of my daughters zanussi!
