One of my earliest memories of fascination with washing machines was my grandmother's Monitor 55, tucked in the corner of her kitchen, which she had long since abandoned for her Kenmore automatic.

After a long search, which included a planned trip to New York that didn't materialize, this machine appeared on Craigslist last week in the next town over from me.

Bottom line, after a phone call and a quick negotiation, I brought this home and started the restore process. Still have some major restoration ahead of me, but here's a few pictures of one of its maiden washes in the house.

Enjoy!

Tim,

Thanks for the great reply. The machine is cleaning up better than I imagined. Also, things seem to run smoother as I use it. I did have to replace the drain hose (the original was missing).

Not pictured in the thread is the cover that goes on top of machine when not using it and also the original instruction card.

Will keep you posted!

Ron

Wow, that looks like a nice find. Where I live was originally our families summer place and we had a Monitor given to us. Square, crank wringer, gravity drain, aluminum tub. I loved watching everything go round and round in the tub. Eventually replaced with my grandmother Maytag wringer which is still in my storage room in the basement.

I've NEVER seen or even heard of these machines. Can you post a vid of it in action? This is from 1955? American? Where was the company located?
