No secret, I've been looking for more of a... Substantial blender. I even had some friends looking for me as they just never seem to show up here. My two, so far, are harvest gold and Avacado Sears blenders made by HB I think I was told. One has bad bearings and the other might need a new power cord. Ok but not great.

Until today.

Karma is a powerful force. I did a little adjustment on a washer for a good customer and wasn't going to charge her. So as I walk thru the garage to my truck, the gleam of chrome caught my eye. I looked at it, admired it and then took it home as a thank you from a grateful customer.

My first real Oster.

By real, I mean real metal! And real glass! It had been sitting for a while and on the first test run, the bearings in the chopper were a bit loud but they calmed down quick enough.

Look at that shine! Not a mark on that shine anywhere on the base. Gleaming Bakelite (or plastic?) and lid, too.

Nice find!  Osterizers are some of the very best, and a Cycle Blend too, very cool.

Is that your shop in the background?  I may have missed them if you've posted some before, but I'd love to see more pictures of your showroom and shop.  It looks very nice.

A question for the experts. Any guesses at how old this is? My customer didn't remember. All I can find on the bottom is 847-01A. Any clues?

Anyway, it's too cool. Gonna de-smudge the buttons, etc. and use it to blend something. That and the handle has a small hairline crack right where the handle meets the metal band on the jar. Any ideas?

The shop?

Ok, the nickel tour... Forgive the lighting. It's an incredibly old store and the l/l is a little... Frugal... with things and this has no light from the outside at night...

The main showroom from the door working left to right...

Looking down into the other storefronts...

Yes, that is Maytag branded carpeting that was an option for Home Appliance Centers back then. It's about as old as the building and overdue for retirement. The Boss wants to build his own store with one heck of a showroom and way more room...

And, yes! There be Queens!

For those who had old Maytags and wished for something close to what they had...

That plus the repair bays makes for a very small shop. Something new coming down the pipes? Let's see...

He says Hello and also goodbye...

Jessie. Right by the door.

Anyhoo, hope you enjoyed the tour. Don't forget to stop by the gift shop on the way out...

Blender kind of day

Thanks for posting photos of your shop - really interesting place, with the old codger there reminding us how bored he was, and the carpet is now "vintage".

That's a beauty of a blender...funny, I found an Oster Classic VIII today at the thift, too...white vs. chrome metal base. You've already noticed, probably, there's a more solid, stable feeling to those metal bases. Have Fun Drew!

I might guess even late 60s a very nice simple control panel simple clean colour scheme and graphics-enjoy how much quieter the metal base is. Re the crack in handle maybe get a modern all glass jar for daily use and save this for display-great find.

I found with our Osterizer (not as old as yours) that it helps to periodically spray some penetrating lubricant into the bearings underneath the blade, where it meets with the base. That area seems to occasionally get a bit rusty on ours. (Especially if I washed it in the dishwasher, which I no longer do.)

In your showroom photos, I think I see a white Kitchenaid slide-in range with a white glass top? Someday I might like one of those, if I don't succumb to the mass hysteria of stainless steel appliances.

That's a nice-looking blender you got! Let me know if you are still looking for another one or if you'd like something else!

Super nice Oster blender-the Oster VINTAGE blenders are the best-stay away from their new models-made in Mexico-and the "metal" drive is thru a plastic breakaway coupler hidden in the motor base.

Your store is the type of store I patronize

When I bought the Maytag (old house) and the Speed-Queens (new house) and Crosley Freezer (new house) - your style of store is exactly what made the purchases so easy.
I am a "veteran" of the TV and appliance industry and did my due diligence by going to the classic "big box" retailers to find what I needed, but mostly to do price comparisons.
One big-box retailer didn't have a salesperson to be found. I ultimately did find them... all huddled behind a wall of refrigerators.. gossiping.
Another HUGE retailer of appliances could never guarantee ANY day to deliver a dryer. I walked away in frustration. For a dealer of appliances for many years, I couldn't believe they would not guarantee a dryer until they could figure out what warehouse it was in.. and then... maybe schedule a delivery. I was RELIEVED to walk away from that store.
After throwing up ... my hands.... I found two local independents who had what I needed... knew the product... delivered it exactly on time and have great service to boot. It was a joy..
So hooray for the independents. That is where I will spend my dollars.
