Finish Power Up Booster Agent

I was in Target today and noticed there is a new Finish product: Power Up Booster Agent.

The website indicates it is basically citric acid with fragrance. I guess to compete with Lemi-Shine.

I would have liked to have seen a new version of Glass Magic with oxygen bleach instead of chlorine bleach to make it enzyme detergent compatible. Based on the website, it appears Glass Magic is still around.

How much air space is above the contents? Lemi-Shine comes in a canister with opaque labeling to hide the fact that it's only 3/4 full.  The weight (12 oz.) is printed in tiny barely readable type.

So what is the point of these products, same with the Tide boosters for laundry? Their regular product advertisements all claim that they get everything fastidiously clean which you would pre-suppose negates the need for a supplement.

I know,, just another product to sell.

The point for dishwashers is to help reduce the effects of hard water, which are MUCH more visible on stainless silverware and glasses than on clothes, IMO. We have rock-hard water here in Middle TN and after phosphates were finally removed from DW detergents we had to start adding LemiShine to every load or things would get a chalky film on it pretty quickly. Now that we have a Bosch with a built-in softener we've been able to completely eliminate LemiShine and everything comes out remarkably clear.

Even LS had its limits though. My wife had been thinking we might need new glasses because ours were feeling rough and a little worn, but after just a few washes in the new machine they felt smooth and new again.

I envy folks with naturally soft water.

Wait?

I remember reading somewhere NOT to add lemi shine or citric acid to enzyme detergent because they work against each other? Is that correct? I thought they should be used ALONE when running the dishwasher on empty to clean it?

I also remember reading the same thing about chorline & enzymes......I don't know - maybe I have it backwards in my mind.

Chlorine and enzymes definitely do not work together as the chlorine breaks down the enzymes.

If I am using any detergent containing chlorine but also need the benefits of enzymes based on the load, I will put the enzyme detergent (i.e., Cascade Complete) in the pre-wash cup then put the chlorine based detergent (i.e., Cascade classic) in the main wash cup. This works well as the enzymes have a chance to work before the load is exposed to the chlorine.

I don't think citric acid has the same impact on the enzymes. The pH of the wash solution would become more neutral but the enzymes themselves wouldn't be broken down. I think the citric acid just helps to bind the calcium and phosphorus to prevent redeposition on dishes and flatware.
