As long as El Nino is in place, there is the risk of these types of storms as the jet stream sits very close to Florida, pushing storms along at upwards of 100 mph. That's faster and more powerful then any of the 2004 hurricanes can lay claim to. The only upside is that come storm season, the jet stream will tend to push any hurricane away from land and outwards and upwards away from Florida.
The Villages is a mess, almost 1200 homes damaged or destroyed. Fortunately, I don't think any loss of life occurred there, and the good folks who sustained no damage to their homes have graciously taken in those neighbors whose homes were damaged or destroyed, until they can have their homes repaired or re-built, as needed.
The worst part is Florida is home to many, many mobile home parks and they just don't stand a chance against a major storm like that. Not that stick built homes can withstand an F3 tornado, either!
