Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

The ramped acitvator IS turquoise because I remembered, just the other day, that some coin-operated GE's I used in the '70's had them. Should've stolen one, I know, but wasn't into it as much back then.

Nice drawing! Since I became acquainted with American washers and dryers I wondered why General Electric didn't make the washer and dryer really matching by giving them the same front design. I mean the washer has no baseboard/kicktoe panel (?) but the dryer does. Anyone knows an explanation for that?

Models made before 1961 featured washers with kick-spaces. They disappeared in 1961--- and were replaced by false black kick plates. They used them on some of the TOL models, but then the practice disappeared. The following are from 1963, where only the two TOL models had the false kick plate:

Well done! I'm a Whirlpool man myself, but I saved these immaculate illustrations to my photos because they are so awesome. I hope you don't mind.

Ken:

you did a very good job! Certainly GE Fans will like them.

foraloysius: it is not very logical, and I always wondered as well. Course, I've never been a big fan of the Chrysler LeBaron, or Dodge Diplomat to be more specific either.

They had similar wierd traits, these two companies did. One would tend to think, just a tad on the down-syndrom side.

The kickspace in the dryer functions as an air-intake. You can stick your hand right up it. (QUIET!). The gas verison also has a slotted access door on the lower right.

Methinks the washer can't have a kickspace / toespace in the way the wrap-around vcabinet attaches to the base.

and BOY OH BOY do the GEs warble and shmmy and shake during spin. At the time I thought the masonite/press-board backing ont he washer was awfully flimsy /*fake*.

Lovely pictures! But you might want to check the pump on your coppertone set, as the recirculated water isn't making it into the Filter-Flo pan...
