Wow. Was that KDS model actually sold as a combination electric sink, or was this a custom adaptation of the dishwasher? The gap in the cabinets appears to be the standard 48" gap that existed in many pre-war (and some post-war) homes, which allowed the installation of combination DW/sink units without costly remodeling, since drain and water supply lines were already in place. To my eye, the color of the DW front does not exactly match the cabinet sink doors, which makes me wonder if this was a kit or after-market modification to adapt a KDS DW to an existing 48" cabinetry gap.

To be honest I have no idea, we just want to get rid of it to build a bar in that area.. But I will looking into it, I am sure folks will be asking me. It's actually pretty cool and but to bad it does't match the rest of our furniture.

It almost looks like it was originally a sink cabinet with a lower right cabinet and drawer which were removed and a dishwasher installed in its place. My great grandmother had a sink very similar to this with a cabinet on the lower right. I could be wrong...but considering the comment above about the dishwasher being a slightly different color, it could be that this is the case.

This was sold by Kitchenaid as a 48" wide unit.  I've owned two houses that had these in the kitchen.

My grandmother's combination unit from the 1950s had a much older KDS model and the top was porcelain, with draining channels on the portion nearest the sink so you could place a dish drainer on top and have the water drain toward the sink, I suppose for pots pans and larger items that one wanted to hand wash (or if you had a full load after dinner and there wasn't room for everything.
