Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hello, Guys

Wow thats a beautiful Westy Dryer.

But my dream machine is a 1971 or 1972 Lady kenmore washer with the piano keys, or a plain model kenmore with the pentaswirl agitator. If there is any one out there that wants to let one go from there personal collection, that is in working condition. Please contact me at 315-858-0534
Best, Chris

Thanks!

I've got a couple of leads now, and will follow up tomorrow. I appreciate all the emails and postings, ya'll are great folks to deal with. Now, say a prayer to the dryer (or shipping) gods, please. LOL

I have used both R&L/U-Crate and U-Ship. I have had success with U-Ship, but you will need to be patient. I found Jim the hauler there (several people here have used him). The first bids you get there will be ridiculous, so don't get discouraged when that happens - people always start out high to see what you'll put up with. U-Crate on the other hand is fixed price, but it may or may not be reasonable to you. If you know someone who ships on R&L as a shipper, they may be able to get a better discount there for you.

good morning!

I've emailed a couple of you just now. I know shipping is nearly impossible on such a short notice. I did make a phone call last night to a friend in hopes of having a temporary place to hold the dryer but I got no call back yet. That's why I'm pushing so hard to get someone to take it ASAP. The only other place I could possibly hold it is literally in my living room and I'm trying not to have to have that conversation with Tony.

If anyone that wants it that has a friend nearby with a car, give them a call. I'll keep trying to find a way on my end.

I believe Pat (Appliguy) is correct. I did some research a while back, and from what I remember Westinghouse introduced the colors Cascade Aqua and Sunshine Yellow in late '54, which would be for the '55 model year. Pink came soon after. Maybe JEB has access to documents that would give the exact intro date.

The dryer pictured looks to be a close if not exact match to my Mom's washer she got for Christmas 1955. I thought it was a '56 model, but after seeing an ad for a '56, the door trim appeared to be different, so maybe it was a left over '55.

I wish I could have it!

Ever since I was a part of this group and learned about these, I was super fascinated with them. The fact that this one is in such great condition and such an adorable color, I'm sad to see that it is on the opposite side of the continent from me. :( I am sure one will show up around here sometime.

Update

Just got a call from the owner and they were able to get a taker on the dryer. Where it's going and what will happen to it is unknown to me but that was bound to happen with such short notice I got. I know a few of you on here really wanted it badly and I'm so sorry I couldn't have done more to help you get it. I'm hoping it's going somewhere to be appreciated and, if not, then we did the best we could.

Have Used "U-Ship" A Time Or Two As Well

With good results in terms of item arriving, but would STRONGLY recommend something this nice properly crated/packed before shipping.

You can ask for "blanket wrap" and other services all you want with U-Ship, and many shippers do the right thing, but bottom line what they consider proper packing as opposed to your ideas may be different.

In particular cords, extras such as manuals and so forth should be secured and properly protected.

As for "C&F", they are a franchise outfit, you can go to their corporate website and search via zip code to see if there is a local office.

Personally for something this "mint", I'd spend the extra funds and go with C&F, rather than be on tenter hooks about how it may arrive with U-Ship.
