Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Heated Question....

My present KA Superba(KUDS220T4) stops at the beginning of the cycle prior to the first prewash to heat the water to the proper temperature.
On my 'find' machine, I think I read in the manual that it actually continues to wash until the proper temperature is reached, then, the timer advances. Is that correct?

Also in my present Superba, the heating element is in the sump area. In my find, the element is exposed.

Now for the dry question:

In my present Superba, the heated drying portion actually has a fan that blows heated air around. I believe there is a heating device in the actual fan housing.

While playing with my Free find a bit ago, I advanced it to the drying portion and the exposed heating element started to get HOT. Am I correct in assuming that the way this machine dries is to get the heat from the exposed element and the fan simply blows the heated air around in the tub to dry the dishes? The fan assembly seems to be plastic, and I believe the fan in my Superba is housed in metal.

Wow, very damn nice!

If it's true about recirculation continuing while the water heats, that's a much better process than a static heat.

I've wondered if later models with the exposed heating element dry as you described, using the element as the heat source and blowing air over it inside the tub.

Good racks are a big plus, those babies are expensive.

Gary -

In your find, the water does continue to recirculate while the machine heats. It does this because the heating element is exposed, as you mentioned, but also because the heating element in the Superba is about double the wattage. The Superba does have a heater integrated into the drying unit, while on your find, the blower unit does not contain an integrated heating unit. You'll probably find the cycle times to be longer on your find because water takes longer to heat, depending on the setting of your water heater. Not sure if it's the exact same wash system in both machines or not, but they are at least close. I'll bet you'll notice no real difference in cleaning ability.

So, you gonna keep her?? Were you able to find the literature you wanted on the KitchenAid site?

So, you gonna keep her??

I think so....unless I get an offer(TeeHee!).

I found the literature on the KA website.....Thanks for the information.

I am presently scanning in some information on the Sure Temp water heating as well as cycles and times and will post to the site for inquiring minds.

This new KA will join my Superba as well as my GE2800. Perhaps I will have to have a 'dish' wash-in.

And coming soon will be my latest washer addition...A true Dependable Care Maytag.

Things are happening here in CT. Changes galore. I think I am finally starting to enjoy what life is all about.

Another trivia question....

What was the mini-spray arm called at the upper most part of the washtub that was used in the older KA models?

And why do you think they eliminated that wash arm. Wasn't the purpose to make sure the tops of items in the upper rack were clean, clean, CLEAN????

It was called Constant Rinse. I'll be darned, it did kinda delay for heating. And htis has the adjustable rack, because this is a J mopdel rather than the I mopdel.

Andrew, I beg to differ with youj. This 23 series was the last of the porcelain KAs. The 24 & 25 series followed, the SS interior with the dishes loaded crosswise like in a WP, but this wasn't a TT. John Charles has a KUDS25 in his Kitchen. John, we neeed a pic to show Andrew.

And BTW Gary, I'm so darn jealous I could spit, but very very happy for you!!!

And BTW Gary, I'm so darn jealous I could spit,

Thank you Bob.

And FREE......absolutely FREE.

BTW...was there a name for this model?

Guess the names used to be Superba, Patrician, Imperial, and Custom.

Thanks for the information on the Constant Rinse. But again, why was it eliminated?

Bob- I remember those 24 and 25 machines well. I meant to say the SS rather than the TT models. S, T, what's in a letter???? (Actually, it's old age starting to rear its ugly head!!)

My sister in law had the model 25. I thought it cleaned rather well, and it was very quiet. A little tight on the inside and no adjustable upper rack like the previous Superba had.

By the way Gary, that 2800 is just beautiful. I hope you have a big house - sounds like you've got the bug now!! Ain't it a blast????

Gary, Quite a find!!!!

I too am a bit jealous! The only thing I find on the side of the road are speeding tickets! Grrrrrrrr!
