The inside of that machine looks beautiful - it was probably kicked to the curb because it wasn't stainless steel - or all white! I've always thought that if stainless panels were put on this machine, it would be pretty hot looking. That black and chrome panel and trim would really set it off beautifully.

I had to deal with the hassle of Craigslist and drive to snooty Newport Hills to get mine, but it was free also. It's a dream. I keep my water heater at 140, so it flies right through the cycle in 45 minutes.
I miss the random loading convenience, capacity and quiet of my Maytag, but this one beats the hell out of the plastic Whirlpool that was brand new, but terrible.
I am getting used to this one again. I had a Superba, like your, in the Ellensburg years.
Gary, I not sure you've changed. I think you just accepted your power. You are a drop dead handsome, funny, kind, intelligent man. And did I mention those feet!!!!

Very Cool Find!
Great Dishwasher!
This is the Whirlpool Pump and drying system. Great Dishwasher!
Your Superba that you posted pictures of is really a Hobart design.
One of the big kick - off's of who made what...
Your Superba has a Smaller "self cleaning" filter system. The Whirlpool is much larger. Hobarts' were actually half that size.
Also, the Hobart machines had the big thick heating element in the sump for water heating, and not in the tub.
And....The "heater box" was like the old Hobart's to dry the dishes. The WP's were just a blower, with the heating element in the tub working.
If you find these......and want to know the difference at a glance. Look under them.
The WP has the drain connection close to the motor, acutally coming from on top of the motor to the left.
The Hobart connection for drain is in the front of the frame, not close to the motor.
Keep in mind....they are both GREAT MACHINES!
I found a Imperial Model WP built KA, that has a rapid advance timer. Not used very much. It was cool because I never knew that the Imperial's ever had this timer in them. I think I saw one on Ebay not all that long ago.

Gary, congratulations, what a great-looking dishwasher! Definitely low-mileage for sure. One of these days I hope to find a KitchenAid portable/convertible around here, but so far, no such luck.

The best-looking KA I've seen so far was the one that (I believe) Patrick in Oregon has with the stainless front panels and electronic controls. Two words: DREAM MACHINE!

hey Gary, nice find, I have the same DW in my kitchen and it works AWESOME !!, mine is a bit older and a Hobart made machine but even when WP took them over they still made a really good DW. RichM from Worcester wants one of these badly.

Hey Gary,

I checked mine and it's model KUDI220T. The dial's a little different from yours. I always thought this machine was fairly BOL and not anything special, not including the fact that as far as dishwashers go, a KA is pretty special, but from what I've read here it appears this particular model has its fans. This machine hasn't needed a single repair in 16 years and has the timeless look KA is famous for.

I changed the black panels to white.

Until it finds a permanent home somewhere with me, I temporarily hooked it up so that I could connect it to my laundry sink. I used the steel braided hose for that purpose and bought a new dishcharge hose as well as a cord with plug attached.

The dishwasher went through its paces without a hitch and performs flawlessly, just like all the older KitchenAid's did.
They really were a quality appliance, and, it is so sad that the KitchenAid name does not have the same connotation that it did years ago.

I know of several people that have the newer model KitcheAid dishwashers and hate them because of the fact that they don't clean well, especially 'gunk' that is left in the glasses(I have seen this first-hand). My two KitchenAid dishwashers would never leave that mess in the glasses. Neither would my GE2800.
