Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

When my Cascade Complete pods run out, I'd love to try out the CC powder and see the differences. I did notice the other day at Costco that Finish had a sale for the Quantum pods which were a better value than either of the Cascade pods (Complete and Platinum) but Kirkland still had the best deal. Those are my most favorite and by far the best pods I've ever used for my KitchenAid. But once I use up those Kirkland pods, I'll go ahead and give Finish a shot.

I went to Target today and founded a thing of Finish Quantum that was already opened so I gave it a sniff. WAY too much scent for my taste. I did happen to grab a sample pack of Cascade Platinum to try out and I like the smell of those pods better. Only question is how well it will handle against the smoker racks this weekend.

I finally got around to it

I didn't think I was going to buy the Finish Quantum tabs after that Target experience but my aunt happened to have some already so I decided to give it a shot in my KitchenAid as it didn't costed me anything to try out. I even went to the extreme of having my dishes as dirty as they possibly can and still put it on the lightest setting since that's what we would normally do. Overall, I think it's safe to say that I founded new respect for Finish. But I do have some comments. First of all, I made the mistake of running the dishwasher while there's already some rinse aid inside as I wanted to see if it was leaving any water marks behind and of course it didn't. We have some old Cascade Complete Gel that I'm certain already expired so we had to use it up. It was leaving water marks behind even by cutting back on the detergent. So we bought some Finish Jet-Dry to try out and it was excellent. I bet that was my problem the whole time with Finish in the past. But I did noticed that it was just slightly more expensive than Cascade and supposedly should do the same job. I also noticed that some of the Quantum pods had some leaks around unlike Cascade where they don't, at least we never had that problem before. And I was very pleased that it didn't leave a scent behind, I was concerned about that part. But I didn't liked the smell of the detergent when the dishwasher was running, one of the things that I do like about better with both Cascade and Kirkland. Would I recommend Finish now? Yes. Will I switch over to Finish? Honestly, no. I'll continue to use both Cascade Complete and Kirkland, they're still my favorite to use. Speaking of Cascade Complete, I did use the Platinum pods (actually they were Platinum Plus) and I really couldn't find the difference between that and the Complete pods. Unless if I find them at a really good deal at Costco, I don't think they're worth the extra price cause we really don't need them honestly.

Not sure how I missed this thread, but I have been using Finish since I got my Bosch dishwasher May 2021. I use both Finiish Classic and Finish Quantum-for the filthiest/grimiest and it's far superior to any Cascade varieties I used. Although I think the dishwasher has somehting to do wit the far suuperior cleaning compared to my previous two Kenmore Elite dishwashers.

I've only noticed Finish Quantum (and similar product) has multi-chamber design. The rest are on single large pod. I only use Quantum for the heaviest soiled loads. Regular Finish does an outstanding job.

I have been using Somat Gold in my LG dishwasher with excellent results. Our water here in FL is a tad hard and the Somat works quite well in the conditions I have here. Finish Ultimate I find has one annoying issue , at least in the pouch I bought was one of the chambers burst and as a result created this gooey mess in the bottom of the pouch…had to throw away 6 pods since they clumped together. I have used Cascade Platinum Plus and my gawd those suds up and cause cavitation in my machine in the wash cycle. It does well cleaning but hearing the pump driving the foam all over the load is concerning at times. When I say foam …I opened the door and was surprised to see the everything in the dishwasher was covered in it. Somat does not foam up and it does an excellent job cleaning and there is zero scent left behind.

I also want to add that Finish Quantum and the Ultimate versions do clean well in my machine. But I cannot use Cascade Complete Powder though. It leaves this white film on the tank and racks not to mention on my glassware. I could use Cascade Complete Powder when we lived in Mass with no issues since the water was relatively soft. I tried it here and it was a disaster. The water here is good but the hardness can vary depending on what well the city is drawing water from. The City seems to alternate wells and one source is harder than the other. We get our water from the Floridan Aquifer, in fact most of the state draws from it.

somat and dishwasher foam

What scents are available in the somat gold? I use Cascade platinum plus and while it does clean good, the pump is sounding line it's pleading for help due to suds despite it moving the water around. I'm planning on returning to Finish Ultimate and it's corresponding rinse aid when I run out of Cascade products. That's true for my Bosch built Kenmore dishwasher.

scents left behind

I'm gonna chime in on this becuase it made me think of something.

I'm talking about 2 detergents here (Finish Quantum) and (Kirkland Pods)

Here's what's weird: The finish Quantum, when I open that bag is SUPER strong scented. Almost knock you over scented... but when the dishes are done, that smell isn't left on ANYTHING... Zero.. completely gone... HOWEVER, the Kirkland pods (but only when you recently buy them) do have a scent slightly left behind (even though they don't smell as strong) Makes no sense...But here's what ends up happening. I think the Costo Kirkland is actually better than the Quantum...The first time years ago I bought the Kirkland pods (which don't seem like they have changed a single bit)...when they are freshly bought... that's when I noticed it leaves that scent behind... but after they've been under the counter for months, I can still smell the slight scent when I open then, but it leaves zero scent on dishes... Usually when I do buy new dishwasher detergent, I have some already left from what I had beforer (in my case, Quantum) which I'm almost out of...but that allows the kirkland to sit there for a couple of months....I can't explain this at all honestly....that's the ONLY thing I don't like about the kirkland is that I can slightly smell it in/on dishes/glasses when it's done.... but not after it's been under the counter for a couple of months...
