Back around 1993, WCI replaced the motors from one direction to a reverse tumble single belt drive on the Frigidaires. They also made Kenmore, Gibson, and Signature models. They only changed the motor and,if I remember correctly, they may have just changed the tubs from porcelain to stainless. They still had the oval window .
In 1995, the new models came out with an entirely different, fresh new look and design. Before Neptune. Before GE, Before LG,before Whirlpool. Had they put a little more effort in design and features, I believe that Elux could have become a nicer machine. However, imp, they failed tremendously. Cheap parts, bad spiders, bad pumps, no button catchers and bad frequency of repair records. I spoke to a few of their so called EOs and they had absolutely no answers to my questions on improvements of design. At LG, the reps were so full of important answers and have continued improvements on their line. My latest being top with a square window. I have to pick it up this weekend with a red model as,well. Would have grabbed them yesterday but thetes a tropical storm here and it was too wet to go get them. They're both wrapped in plastic and indoors. The Duets work fine except the dryer is not heating. At least it isn't the mother board. Could be either the thermometer couple or element. Everything else works fine. I reconnected the LG dryer to use till I repair the Duet. Then, I plan on selling them on CL for $1200. They're in pristine condition but a bit boring to watch. I guess I'm just spoiled watching the LGs turbulent, active, vigorous tumbles with recirculation spray.
