Gain "Lavender" Laundry Detergent

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Launderess, when I smelled the fragrance from that detergent, I too thought "This is everything but not lavender". The lavender stuff here in Europe really smells like lavender but often it is so strong that I have to leave it on the shelf. I love lavender but not like 10x concentrated.

Everything Is Dried

So can say the fragrance punch has diminshed with tumble drying/airing so it's not as strong as when things came out of the Miele.

Must still say while again nothing like true French lavender the scent has a crisp freshness to it. Would do well paired with Seventh Generation's lavender eucalyptus FS one has in the stash.

Only did a mattress and bed cover tonight. Mayhaps will try some on the linens after changing the beds on Monday.

Also

There is another detergent here having a real lavender scent and it is  "weirdly" named "soft" even if  does not have anything to do with softeners, I used it in lavender and regualar scent several times and works nice, these detergents have real  soap flakes in them  and about 5% of Phosforus (phosfates).

One Day Later

Can honestly say the scent is faint but still there, which is fine by me.

Don't like overpowering fragrances from laundry products and the gentle scent means one can use it on things like bedding and linens without worry.

FWIW Gain does have a matching fabric softener scent. One supposes if you *really* wanted staying power layering one over the other should get you there.

I have read somewhere that Lavendar is the most stimulating scent for males, so the importance of this thread should not be underestimated!

I usually keep a bottle of French `Lavande des Collines' Soupline (Colgate - Palmolive) FS which is one of the originals and is still sold (the bottle I have only dates back a couple of months).

It is lovely to use (though lurid purple and thick, leaves major residue in the dispenser) and smells great on clean linens for a day or 2. Then something odd happens and the nice scent becomes a little `sweaty' and sour. For every market a product.........

We have a variety of products in the UK pretending to be something to do with lavendar. To my nose, the best one (in terms of scent) is the LIDL 2 in 1 powder which I guess is the same all over Europe.

Lavender & Laundry/Washing

Go way back, since ancient Roman times. Indeed for most Latin, Germanic based and other languages the stem "Lav..." most always relates to cleaning or washing (lavatory, lavanderie, lavanderia, lavage, etc...).

The essential oils from most types of lavender have powerful antiseptic properties and were used in many cultures (such as the French) as such long before modern chemicals came along. French hospitals for instance would burn lavender to "kill" germs in the air and one supposes to help deal with the whiff about the place. Lavender essential oils will also heal skin burns as well.

Were the stuff grows naturally (UK, France, etc...) wet laundry would be placed over lavender bushes to dry. This would infuse them with a wonderful scent.

Being as all this may many persons cannot abide the scent of lavender. To some it smells of "old ladies", others it brings on migraines/headaches and even convulsions.

By and large what most laundry and other laundry products hawk as "lavender" scent is far from it and rather putrid to one's nose. Much of this has to do with the cost. Pure essential and or fragrance lavender oils from the best plants in UK or France is very dear cost wise. Not something you'd plop into a $2 bottle of FS.

Karen has one of those wood stick defusers in our den and uses French Lavender oil with the setup. I really like the way it smells, but to tell you the truth I think it puts me to sleep, especially when watching TV.

Lidl 2 in 1 lavendar and chamomile powder

Is very good for washing dog bedding etc as its soon diminished which is a relief as the smell of fake lavendar sends my senses straight back to Nursing homes who desperately use such scented products to cover/remove the lingering odour of stale urine, Even today some 20 years since I last worked in these awful places I can still relate the scent... EWWWWWWWWW

I know exactly what you mean. I worked in Nursing Homes for a few years ( thankfully very good ones). We got a new multi purpose anti-bacterial cleaner which smelt divine so I bought some myself to use at home, the thing was every time I used it at home I could just smell poo!! We also had a lady who drank a bottle of lavender perfume her daughter had given her as a present, no ill effects thankfully and she did have lovely smelling breath!

Comfort in the UK now has a ~Lavender variety, Not a patch on the Lenor version which i actually quite like in its synthetic kind of way.

Bold Lavender powder/tablets/gel/liquitabs all have that sweaty smell Nick mentioned. If I ever see bottles of Bold 2X in Lavender i always snap some up as that has a true Lavender smell to my nose.

Male stimulants? new one to me, always think of it being girly, well OLD girly uhm granny like,

If Paul walked through the door smelling of Lavender Id be less suspicious than if he came home reeking of Gin. LOL (teetotal!)

Paul its weird ........

Why do some things become associated when they have nothing in common apart from scent? Its odd how you can have a memory triggered by a smell.
