Found this on CL, wanted the dryer, but ended up with both. The washer needs a clutch. Anyone have the thread on replacing a FF clutch. It is a WA8324WASWH. Know its 1989 and really not vintage....but really 20 years old.

Hi Jon

Ok on normal speed spin it starts off and builds speed but never gets fast. It doesnt even get up to gentle. On Gentle it starts up and sounds like it is going to get up to speed and may be at speed for gentle. It is a faster spin on gentle than normal. And it makes a loud scraping noise.

Sounds like..

the clutch shoes are worn out. A new clutch would definitely make all of that go away and may be easier to just replace the whole clutch rather than rebuild it. Just curious though. I've never witnessed a failing clutch before. I've been rather lucky.

Bad Clutch

Definitely a bad clutch. The clutch on my early 80's FilterFlo is going out too. Makes this loud grating noise when the motor starts and makes a loud growling noise while it's running.

When I replaced the motor this past weekend it turned out that the clutch is all worn out. Bearings are shot and shoes are pretty worn, so I too will be replacing mine. I have a 2-speed, so it uses the same clutch yours does.

Repair Manual Help

I found the manual but it is $16.25, does anyone have one on hand? Maybe a scanned? Also I need advice on finding the clutch and any other parts needed. I ve looked on ebay but wonder if anyone else had ideas.

The GE manual is good, it has lots of clear pictures and walks you thru step by step. It is great for a do- it - yourselfer or an experienced repair person. It's worth it.
