I have a GE clothes dryer with an Eaton timer that went bad. I changed it with another timer, and it works. However, the timer dial now goes counter clockwise, instead of clockwise. I wired the timer the same way as the original. the timer model # is GE113D5510G004 There is a slight difference in the one i put on in compared to the bad timer, the new one has a terminal labeled with an H where the original is labeled with an X. Why is the timer turning in the wrong direction and how do I fix it?

could be a faulty timer motor-the synchronous timer motors can start and run in either direction-a ratchet mechanism is supposed to ensure the motor only runs in the intended direction, but if that mechanism is faulty motor may start in wrong direction-try turning on/off a couple times and see if timer runs in correct direction:if it is always backwards, could be wrong timer motor.

The motor must be defective. The synchronous motors that are used in many clocks and timers have the ability to turn in both directions but there's something in them that won't let them turn in the wrong direction. This part can break and allow the motor to start in either direction.

I remember we had a very old dryer (from the late 70s) and one of my brothers (as a kid) forced the knob backwards (it only turned one direction) and it started to run backwards too.

We ended up having to buy a new dryer as the machine part wasn't available.

The clothes ndo not get wetter as the cycle runs but got to admit that was a good one! I thought that somehow a wire got flipped or something, never thought about the synchronizers getting whacked out. I will try turning on and off multiple times to see if this helps.

Thanks for the tips

It could be one of those subspace anomalies that the crew of the Enterprise occasionally used to run into!
