Today, I did something crazy and took pix that are being developed now at Walgreens.

So much talk and interest in Calypsos lately, that I realized the GE's with ramp agitator can be made to work like a Calypso.

The guest towels weren't dirty, just needed a freshening, so in they went, three of them, white, textured (little rectangles), bath. Set the water level, not a low but at Mini, and WOW, the filter flowed in full over the ramps, the water splashed around the tub, the towels moved in perfect circles. It was really neat, and it worked. the ramp is gentler than the Calyptotator. I left the filter pan out of course.

Really into it, I let the tub fill up to max, because I wanted so see the spin drain unwrapped or revealed. So I clicked open the two tabs on the upper frame and pushed it back exposing the inner and outer tub. Very excited, I blocked off the wiry areas with pieces of plexiglas. Holding my breath, I reached around and pulled out the knob which had been preset to spin, and WHOA NELLY.

First the huge outer circular wall of water heaved up and down, like a volcanic warning, then up up up it sloshed. On the left the water came crashing back into the inner tub, but on the right it kept rising up against the plexiglas like a miniature tidal wave, then click, woo woo woo, darkness and silence. The circuit breaker popped. Obviously water got in some where. Every thing is fine; no damage, and when my friend Denny comes home, we're going to film it. It was very exciting. The pics won't do it justice, but you'll see a few pretty unusual shots.

Do any of you mess around with your machines?

Truly the "Kink" of the double-entendre,

Toggles, you find them when even when unintended.

Did I break any building code or OSHA (?) laws with this evening's high jinks,

Super Unimatic 2.0?

I have never personally modded my washer, although a Turbocharged A208 with a spoiler, loud exhaust, chrome rims, and a kickin' stereo would be amusing. (See it all on MTV's new hit "reality" series "Pimp My Appliance")

I wouldn't desecrate a good appliance in that fashion, but why not fix what the engineers missed, and continue to miss? Could the cleaning ability of a Norgetag be improved if you could fit it with a Burpalator and lint filter? Could a post-1995 GE or Hotpoint top-loading washer be made an amazing machine? Will a new Frigidaire dishwasher ever live up to its name? Can LG ever win a quality of service award? The sky's the limit.

Time to turbo through a load of towels,
Dave

OK now THAT is funny. my reponse when written had ZERO intended innuendo. HONESTLY!

TE HE HE HE.

~Did I break any building code or OSHA (?) laws with this evening's high jinks,

Do as you wish, but please don't fry yourself experimenting!

MICKEY, you find them when even unintended.
(ducks and runs)

So what other mischief (WITH MACHINES!) are you famous for?

thanks for asking, Buddy

When using the mini-basket, I have a secret way of by-passing the long cold spray rinse which is useless because none of it reaches the mini-basket. The hot wash water pumps into its patiently waiting neighbor, the Whirlpool '77. Then the hot rinse water pumps into the WP. But those few gallons are not enough to make the WP's minimum for a low water level fill. So, I gently tilt the machine backwards which tricks and trips the water lever sensor, and PRESTO, we have agitation for the nasty floor rags.

NOW TO FREAK OUT GE AND FRIGIDAIRE LOVERS;

Lately, since getting the Frig from Greg, I've been running the GE's hot wash and rinse into the Frigidaire, and you won't believe this until you either see it or try it yourselves...but the Frig is FULL of water after the GE's mini wash and rinse. Such perfect economy of water usage, that frigidaire. We've got to get them back. Frigidaires could solve the whole water consumption issue in one tweak of Samantha's nose.

Toggs, Are you sure you didn't mean weenie for machine? Sorry! I could have sworn. Wink ;'D

not a useless rinse spray.....

It may appear that the spray rinse is useless on the mini-wash cycle, but the spray rinse helps wash the suds out of the main tub, allowing for a better rinse. I do agree that none of the spray gets into the mini-basket, but the spray does serve a purpose.....

spray rinse

very true, halstead. seems to me it serves as much to keep the tubs clean and flush the pump as it does to rinse the clothes.

i think some of todays mold/odor prone machines might stay cleaner with a couple of spray rinses.
