Got a speed queen 2017 in Feb. Today it’s making a hum/rattle as it agitates and the tub is not rotating in a counter clockwise manner as I remember it doing.

Before I call and schedule service on Monday I want to know if that seems normal.

I wish I could post a video of what it’s doing but it seems my iPad or iPhone will not let me.

The agitator is still going, the clothes are rolling over but the tub just stays still the whole time.

I watched some videos on YouTube of other speed queens and I notice their tubs are doing what mine used to.

What’s up???

Hum/rattle is probably the plastic shield around the capacitor. Mine made a lot of noise and when I saw older models didn’t even have that I just removed it. These machines do tend to make a lot of funny noises that seem to be normal.

If your SQ purchased in February of 2017 has finally stopped indexing, I guess there's hope that my 9 Series (purchased July 2017) will eventually stop, as well.

I've always liked machines with indexing tubs (Westinghouse; WCI & Electrolux-era Frigidaires) because they're fun to watch, but with the SQ it really does hinder turnover of large loads.

As others have mentioned, one learns to ignore the odd comes-and-goes sounds made by SQ top-loaders.  My 2014 AWN542 sometimes made a sound during slow agitation that was best described as someone shaking a Rosary around in a 1-lb. coffee can.  As long as you don't smell anything burning and it isn't shedding nuts and bolts like a '73 Fiat, it's probably fine.
