If I remember correctly, Hotpoint was originally with Edison. When they introduced the first electric, cooking range,GE got pissed off because Edison beat them to the patent. So, GE bought Hotpoint from Edison Electric or McGraw Edison to get the rights to make their own. Hotpoint made irons and toasters tlo. I liked them prior to 1970. When Hotpoint began looking more like a cheap ass version of the GE low end line, I lost most of my interest in their products. I hate all GE products except their ranges and their dishwashers. To me, everything else is way over rated and overpriced.

Chuck, Hotpoint has been a part of General Electric a LONG time - 96 years to be exact. The company was originally founded circa 1905 as a manufacturer of electric irons. They merged with the Hughes Electric Heating Co. (inventor of the electric range) and the heating device division of GE. This took place in 1918. The appliance division of General Electric was known as Edison Electric Appliance Co. for many years.
