I finally found a beautiful Maytag Wringer Sr yesterday and brought her home. Works great with no leaks and looks like new almost. The serial number is 104938 00. Can anyone tell me about how old this baby may be? Thank you for your help.

Jim

Is the rubber ball that you step on to activate the wringers rotted away to nothing?  If so, you can put a bolt in the opening where the tube attachs to the machine to override that PITA safety feature.

Seeing that it is an E2LS, it is from the late 1960's thru 1981 when Maytag stopped production of wringer machines.

Thank You !!

It doesn't have the safety ball anymore. I did not look under it to see if there was a bolt in where the hose was attached or not. I am glad it is not connected. The machine works great and is sooooooooooooooo quiet. The wringer really does a great job of getting the water out. I run the heavy things through twice before I put them in the dryer but very little water comes out on the 2nd wring. I am happy now :-).

how bout a pic?

I was wondering if it was like the one Mom had before we went automatic with a used Kenmore 80 series in 1986.She had the round one which was white with aqua trim and had the PITA rubber foot ball.........and the round plastic knob in the center of the outside of the tub to turn on/off the agitation.Wringer control was a lever on the top of the wringer portion.

There should be 2 letters at the end of the serial number that are stamped in. These will tell the year and month of production. The last wringers were produced in November 1983.

Thank You !!

The two letters appear to be GC or more likely CC but not sure as they are kind of unevenly stamped. I looked at them through a magnifying glass and they look more like CC. Does that tell you anything? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again !!

OK

Thanks a lot !!! I can handle a two year difference LOL. I looked again and still can't tell what the 1st letter is for certain. Thanks again !!

Jim

Congratulations on your find, Jim! Remember to take the agitator out when you're finished washing, rinse the tub, and leave agitator off between wash days (or at least until dry)...and lock the wringer rolls apart between wash days, too.

I intend

to take pics soon and post them. Have never posted pics but think I will have no problem. I do take the agitator out after use and just lay it in the tub after drying it. I do release the tension on the wringers but don't lift the top up to separate the rolls in any other way. Should I be doing that? It gets used weekly for the entire laundry. Also, does anyone know of a good way to clean the tarnish from the aluminum tub interior? I have tried everything I know and nothing has worked. I see in here that another member uses SOS pads but I am afraid they may be to abrasive. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all !!

Jim

It's a good idea to lock the rolls apart. Just lift the top of the wringer up about an inch or so and turn the lever on top to the right to lock them apart. To release the top when you're going to use the washer, push the release bar and turn the lever to the left.

Hopefully someone else reading this can tell you more about the type of SOS pads to use and how to shine up the tub... I've seen pictures of members who use the SOS pads and they seem to have great results. I'll post a link to a thread where this was discussed:

Thanks for posting

this information !!!! I am going to try come CLR before I use Brillo. I will get my tub as nice as these somehow LOL. Thanks again for all of the postings. I use Tide but won't use Clorox in it after I get it cleaned. Thanks Again !!

Jim

No problem, Jim. I don't think I would use CLR in the tub...I think it's too harsh. That's just my opinion, but I think I've read that when others have written about it on here, too.

I would pay close attention to whatever Geoffdelp on here says. Although I don't know him, I think he knows his stuff and his washers look tip-top in every picture I've ever seen.

Read this thread, scroll down quite a bit:
