Been in the 90's here along with lovely humidity. As such, the non union Goodman has been working a lot more than usual.

With the temp at 92 outside and indoor setting at 76, I'm running about a 15-20 minute cycle on time with a 25 minute give or take cycle off time.

Indoor humidity is 54-56% through out the day, not sure at night. That is when I sleep naturally! :)

I cannot recall if last year, my first in the home, we had such a stretch of hot weather like this. Perhaps a day here and there, but this is the first summer where it really is getting a workout. Scroll compressors rock.

The outdoor unit is still pretty clean save for the occasional bird droppings. The coils still shine and drain holes are free and clear.

I would expect this might impact the upcoming light bill; my APP got bumped up to $69 thanks in part to the days I ran the electric heater in the garage this past winter along with 2/25 foot old school C9 outdoor lights. I think First Energy reviews every 3-4 months and adjusts the APP accordingly and I have been trending downward on KW usage until the last 4 days or so.

At any rate, I am staying cool thanks to some pretty decent construction and good insulation all around.

The air conditioner has been running non-stop here all day. It's 96 degrees here and has been in the upper 90's all week. Not as bad as 1980 but if it keeps up it could be. It would have to jump into the 100's and stay there for weeks to beat 1980.

Peaked between 98°F & 100°F today. Current heat index 103°F. Twelve-years-old Carrier is cycling at 78°F. Cooler end of the house reads 2°F lower. Haven't consciously noticed how long are the on/off cycles. Extreme outdoor temps should garner continuous run anyway.

If it is 90 degrees

outside, My central air users guide says to set the indoor temp at 80, or ten degrees cooler than outside. Quite comfortable and lower humidity.
Yesterday was hotter, and until the sun set, it ran steady set at 80 for an hour. No shade on the west side of our house. The brick holds heat too.
The indoor fan speed changed some. Somehow it knows when to bump it up to high just before it shuts off. The outside unit is two speed, both compressor and fan.

Find if one keeps the (heavy & dark) drapes closed

Place does not heat up much during the day with AC off. Can come home, prepare and have dinner, do the washing up and really wait until bedtime before turning it back on.

Have mine set at 74F and using a large vintage commercial fan that says on pretty much all the time. That thing really moves air even on "low" so the AC does not need to work as hard/long to keep things cool.

If it is 90 degrees outside, My central air users guide says to set the indoor temp at 80, or ten degrees cooler than outside.
So the indoor temp should be set at 90°F when the outdoors is 100°F? 95°F inside if outside is 105°F? Seriously?

No. Can't do that. I have trouble sleeping at night when the air goes off. I start sweating in bed. Have a heat rash on my upper chest. Controlling it well with Tea Tree oil though.

The owners manual that came with one of my Carrier (410R refrigerant central units)
suggests that the unit can be expected to cool 15 degrees below outdoor ambient temp. According the installer they are "slightly" undersized to handle the humidity here. True they handle the humidity but I would like it a little cooler. The mini-manse has one Amana (Goodman) gas pack and can drop indoor temps from 85 to 70 in less than 10 minutes, that's what I'm talking about!

Our Amana (Goodman) gas pack is doing a fine job keeping the house at 77F, occasionally 76F. When I left Vanderbilt yesterday at 7am it was already 83F outside...felt like walking into a steam room when I came out of the building.

down to 78 now

Unit is cycling on and off, cycles are shorter and off times are longer now.

Supposed to be 94 and more humid tomorrow. We'll see if 2 ton can carry the freight.

It's been like a sauna here for over a week. Heat indices 95 to 110 degrees. Dew points from 70-79. My old Trane central air conditioner has no problem holding my poorly insulated house at 72 degrees 24/7. Also running Frigidaire dehumidifiers in the tuck-under garage and the lower level of the house.

The rain just doesn't stop. Had another 1/4 inch this morning.

Have to play in a brass group at an outdoor gig tomorrow. I'm sweating already.

Hi, Ben!☺️

This week has been pretty warm here, and the humidity astronomical. It keeps storming too, but the storms aren't cooling things off just making it more humid. The A/C's have been getting their workout. The 2.5 ton downstairs unit on 73 will run continuously all afternoon at 96 outside (what it was today) and the (oversized) 3 ton upstairs will run about 25-30 minute on cycles and 8 minute off cycles set to 72. The downstairs RH will get down to 42% when it runs continuous no matter how humid outside, and upstairs hovers around 48-50% when the dew point outside is in the mid 70s like this week has been.
The low last night was 78 and both units ran long cycles all night long. It was 90 by 10:30 this morning.

I love my 13 year old Goodman. Runs like a champ--scroll compressor as well. I've been rocking along at 72 in day and 69 at night. :) New E-Glass windows keeping it cool.

I don't see how

anyone can stand the AC temp set to 76F! That is way too warm for me. I hate heat/humidity. We keep our Trane electric heat pump on 64F in the winter, but in the summer, I make up for it. I keep my AC set to 70F. It has been HOT here too. 93F today but terrible humidity. At midnight, the outside temp was still 80F. Unfortunately, my subdivision is from 2004 so there aren't really any mature trees yet. Much bigger than they were in 2004, but no shade really, so my AC runs a lot. It seems like it cycles on/off up until about early afternoon, then it runs constantly until dark (when we have weather where the temp is 90F and above for several hours.)

God yes.

My Carrier unit has been running almost nonstop in low speed mode.
Operation in the house is silent unless medium speed is needed.

Upper 90's outside, beautiful 70 inside.
It is good for about a 30* spread between inside and outside before it shows signs of weakness.
