My husband & I just got back from a 2 week drive of Route 66 from St. Louis, MO to Oatman, AZ & we spotted a few old washers along the way. Now I've posted before that I'm not really a washer fanatic, but I do like looking at old machines. I took these pics with you guys in mind. The first one was found at the Rock Cafe in Stroud, OK where we stopped for lunch.

More in Arizona

These were found close to the end of the trip in Oatman, AZ (a town known for the wild burros wandering about)

More pictures

I'm working on putting other pictures of our trip up on the web & I'll post it on the yellow forum when it's ready, if anyone's interested. It may take a while, my husband is into photography like you guys are into washers. He took over 4000 pictures! So I've got to whittle them down quite a bit!

Yes, FOUR THOUSAND

I had my own camera, but stopped taking pics on about day 2, figured what's the point? Multiple pics of everything. Gotta take each shot with different exposures, different lenses, etc, etc. He knows I love him, but I gotta say by the end of the trip I was ready to leave him in the desert! lol.

Thank you, Virginia for documenting these machines and for taking the pictures with us in mind. Was there any indication that these machines might have been for sale or just for show?

Are you on the East or West coast? I really like the tropical vegetation down there. It's a shame that there are so few basements in Florida where old washers might have been saved, but with the water table in most places, they would be indoor pools and not places to save treasures.

Glad you had a good, safe trip. Thanks again.

Not for sale

The washers seemed to be for decoration. The first one, the Maytag, was out on the patio dining area of the Rock Cafe. Other very such decor at that place, such as a bath tub in the front garden. The others were on the front porches of some little touristy shops in Oatman, AZ. I don't know that the owners would't part with them if someone offered to buy them, I didn't ask. I'm on the east coast in Delray Beach, about halfway between West Palm Beach & Ft. Lauderdale. Yes its true, no basements here!
