Have You Dismantled Your Machine?

Im just curious how many here have dismantled your machines with approx 4-10 years use and inspected them internally. We see plenty of folks say they use X detergent at X dosage and have no problems at all, but just because it doesnt stink doesn't mean you dont have scale building up on your tub components that you cant see or the heater, sump, spider, bearing, seals, etc.

Just check out my Neptune thread and you can see even with my newer machine that never had smells, there was a hidden issue, though it didnt give me problems or even smell, it was there silently coating everything down under.

So how many of you really know?

DISMANTLING YOUR WASHER

This may be the best way too see if you are having any buildup but most of us are not likely to go to this extreme measure to check for buildups. I would suggest maybe just removing one of the tub baffles on a FLer or the agitator on a TL washer to get an idea what the condition is.

Well, most modern front load washers are as easy to dismantle as the LG in the other thread - that is removing the entire wash unit (the drums and weights) and then splitting the outer basket. No easy job.

Best thing one can do is shine a flash light through the holes in the inner drum and see what the heater and outer tub look like. The 1900 watts heating element in our FL is still shiny after 4.5 years.

I wager that most washers that look great to the average user have crud buildup inside the machine that most would be shocked to see.

Imagine using a bathtub or car for 4 to 10 years and never cleaning them.

Most normal folks never see the inside of a washing machine, water tower, hot water heater, or coffee pot.

In the recent old 1976 FL washer I took apart, I never ever smelled any issues until I took it apart again after 4 years. THEN I found some funky stuff water/mold trapped between the delaminating epoxy paint on the front tub.
