I’m writing this hoping that one of my fellow AWO members with HVAC experience can help me. Two years ago I installed a Bryant 4 zone 6 wells Geo Thermal heat pump. From the start is has had some problems that my installing person seems unable to correct. I don’t think the equipment is at fault, but the operator/service person/ programming error. Starting problem was the unit keep going to axillary heat when first installed. It was determined, that the out side sensor/thermostat was turning off the Geo Thermal because out side temp was to low. It was working as if there was a out side heat pump unit, and there is not. The service person seemed to have forgotten this fact. He then went and reprogrammed the temp set point as low as he could. Then we had problems with the unit sensors sensing that the unit was over heating and turning off the compressor. It was determined there was not enough air flow over heating/ac coils causing the over heating, and switching to AUX heat. When this happens the fan on the unit goes into overdrive and the house sounds like a hurricane blowing. This also is very expensive, aux heat is electric. To correct they installed a big piece of duct work to by pass the basement zone baffles and dump excess heat into the basement.
Now the other night I woke because the fan on the unit was running on high speed as if it had gone in to the aux heat. The temp in the house had dropped to 65 and the air coming out of vents was cold. The the thermostat was flashing filter needed to be checked, I knew this was incorrect. I had just changed it a few months ago and these are to last a year, and this house has very little dust. I turned off the System and let it set for a few minutes and restarted. It seemed to be putting out heated air and the house temp started to increase. At night the system seems to run constantly at high fan speed, never cycling, even when all zones show they have hit their set temp point. During the day it does cycle which makes me believe it is still some how tied to the out side temp sensor. The unit is under warranty and the company has not charged me anything, but have lost confidence in my service persons ability's. I know it is costing me because it is not running properly. I’m putting this on here looking for some Ideas and advice. HELP!

Contact corporate HQ and politely demand their best tech come out. Congratulations on going with this HVAC technology. Jeff has a neighbor who put one in and they are thrilled with the performance and the low cost.

Hey Bob -

I had my HVAC Tech here at work read your story and his suggestion would be to contact Carrier directly (they own Bryant) and complain about the issue and ask that a factory certified tech come take a look at your system.  My tech used to do work in Omaha and mentioned that Central Plains Distributing is the main Carrier dealer in the area.

Good luck,

Ben

A website.

Check with the folks at Heating Help. That site is to HVAC what AW.org is to vintage appliances. Their discussion boards are effective and frequented by pros who love what they do and are all too happy to help.
