In preparation for moving I had a sale over the weekend to reduce the excess inventory. I sold the Neptune set and reconnected the Maytag A-806. Last winter I swiped the belts and used them to repair a relatives machine. I had a set I bought off ebay but they were cheap knock offs and the pump belt was too long to run the pump. I went to the local source, Reliable Parts and picked up a set. $47.51 plus tax $4.52 Total $52.03! I moved the washer away from the wall to tip it back and install the belts. The drain hose was in the standpipe and when I moved the washer forward it pulled off the pump, draining a tub full of water on the floor. So I mopped and move and wrung and moved and mopped and I know everything that's on the floor in the storage room. My Stars, what a load of laundry that turned out to be.

I had your kind of fun when I hooked up my '74 806 for the first time and the damn drain hose decided to burst during the first few seconds on the spin cycle. What a mess!! I guess it was a disciplinary act for stealing the 45 year old drain hose from the 702, lol.

If you keep an eye out on ebay, you can get a set of genuine Maytag belts for really cheap. I usually pick them up for .99 cents to $2.00 a piece. Got 25+ pairs for the washers, along with 15-20 pairs stashed away for Halo dryers. The belts for Halo's became obsoleted nearly 2 years ago, so better grab them while you still can!

Ellensburg

It is time for me to locate close enough to my folks to make sure they're safe, not getting duped and I can wiggle my hand in the bathwater and make sure it's just right. I have no intention of being the onsite care giver but need to phsyically check on them daily, make sure they have good meals, the right meds and not getting played for fools by an unscrupulous bevy of artisans with something to sell. I am looking at a place in the country with room for a dog and an old horse to spoil. The gentleman who transformed my life has offered to buy property so the game just amped up about a 1,000 times. My goal is to be settled there by September 1st.

Hope you find the perfect place. Not sure about your part of the country but property around here is going CHEAP! My aunt is moving in with one of her daughters and is closing up her house. Her son, who happens to live in Washington State, bought it from her years ago giving her a nice retirement income as he paid for it. A few of us met with my local Realtor and she indicated the house should be listed at $79,900. Her son was a bit shocked, he said a few years back the SEV was $125,000! Lucy, the agent said we have not bottomed out yet, prices are dropping 1% a month, which is much better than last year when they were down 7% a month! She thinks we'll bottom out later this year.

Anyway good luck on the search, and have fun looking for the perfect spot.

Good luck on your move, you probably won't need your umbrella round those parts from the look of the location. I must have driven thru there years ago going to Yakima but don't recall the place at all. Maybe I blinked.

Ellensburg sits in a bowl just East of the summit of Snoqualamie Pass. Its located on I-90, 108 miles East of Seattle and 148 miles West of Spokane. It has a short growing season, amazing wind year round and bitter cold winters with snow. Lightly populated the area lends itself to ranching and hay production.

Kelly,

I wish you all the best in this endeavor.
One of the most difficult questions I faced a few years back was the hot water temperature problem when bathing.

The county nurse said "set the water heater to 125°F max.".
I did.
My brother reset it to 150°F.
I turned it back, he turned it forward.
I took it off, broke out the lock ring, re-epoxied it back so the "150°"F water was now 125°F.

(You bet I tried talking first, got nowwhere).

Lived through nightmares of my mom, who bathes when alone in the house, falling into very hot water.

Unfortunately, the 125°F water resulted in too cold water to run the washer and the dishwasher.

So I added a point of use Italian electric water heater just ahead of the dishwasher and washer.

Problem solved.

New water heater has a set screw which can limit the highest temperature. Set it at 125°F. Then filed the screw head so it couldn't be loosened and added a drop of super-glue for good measure.

Turns out, a big enough pipe wrench can solve that problem, too.

So now, there is a hidden temp control valve (brought over from Germany) in each of the pipes to the bathrooms. You can set the water heater to where you want it, the taps remain at 125°F maximum.

If you can afford it, I'd go that way - high temp for the washing and dishwasher, low temp regulation for the rest.

Stay well my friend.

Kelly,

Sounds to me like you're moving to the rear-end of Washington state. I don't think you'll be finding much in the way of thrift store scores. But I do wish you all the best in this undertaking.

Good luck...

Hope you find the right place! Land is cheap right now. My sister and brother-in-law just purchased a HUGE 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom farm house with 29 ACRES of land for $108,000 This also includes ALL mineral rights on the property. Granted, the house is old...but very nice! All original hardwood floors downstairs and all new carpeting upstairs with new bathrooms. Oh, and a full basement! Best part is....the house is about a half mile out in the woods and no neighbors at all!

Aaron
