Not to be picky but.....

As its only the Daz powder on that list that contains oxygen bleach thats probably got a lot to do with it as well. My white towels get 60 but always with a bleach containing powder(Miele Ultrawhite being the current favourite).

And before I get my head bitten off its just my opinion- when to live on your own and pay all your own electricity bill it kinda makes you think a bit more economy minded as well lol!

Your spot on about the bleaching agent making the difference Seamus, liquid contains no bleach neither does any detergnet that is for colours, that is making the difference, even more so than the temperature.

washing powders

gawd ere we go :-)........I too use 60 degree for whites but i have always used Daz or any other powder that contains bleaching agents for this.
Though I remember back in the early 80s, Persil and Aerial both contained bleaching agents and they would fade colours, the only powder i knew of that did not contain bleaching agents then was Dreft automatic.
I used to study the ingrediants on powders because i was fed up with my colours fading, infact a rep for aerial in Sainsburys told me to turn my coloureds inside out and this would stop the fading.............load of old tosh that was.
Then the colour powders starting appearing here long after they were available in Germany for example

Right thats me pieces sed :-)

white fabrics and Whiter than White?

Apparently the reason why white fabrics turn yellow is because they were never white in the first place, some fabrics are dyed white so you get a yellowy tinge if you wash them at high temperatures, which is why some fabrics have 40c labels on them

Hot water can strip the white dye out of the fabric leaving it a chewing gum white colour or a dingy white

if the stain says hot but the label says not

trust ariel to get it clean, even in cool water.

i could never boil wash whites at 90c, it seems a bit impractical and a strain on your electric bill, most whites will get white and clean enough on a 60 degree wash, or even a 40 degree wash

i have alot of white t-shirts with logos on and i could never boil wash them to get them whiter than white, a swish around the washer with a scoop of Daz or Ariel at 40c will do the trick.

i would have thought 60 on towels would be hot enough to get whites white enough

The towels were not thrown away, but the Value powder was after Mike caught site of it and promptly mocked me via text message.

Talk about social suicide, of all the places it had to be here.

I have tried it and the price reflects it performance so its not for me.

God know how many washes it will take to remove the build up so im not holding my breath nor expecting a full set of perfect towels for a while.

Again as I said above its not exactly a great advert for liquids promising perfect whites in cold water or powders that promise the same in warmer waters, proof enough to me that they dont work.

Anyway now Mike has had his fun I guess its back to the machine - I half expected a load of mockery from the Midlands lot LOL.

Paul took some arty shots I only just noticed on the camera so il post them.

Glad to hear the towels are still with us! They did look mingin though, id use them to test out the boilwash cycles on all of your collection!

That does look like Ecover to me too - is it any good? Ive said to Mum about using it but it's quite expensive for a small box, so we tend to use something like Daz, or this week, Ariel. The Ecover washing up liquid is nice though.

but Rob

Would you swap two packets of your old powder for new Ariel, (yes I know the ad was for daz)but I think rob is a more descerning customer. lol

Racked with guilt I nigh on boiled up my towels in the AEG lavalux on the weekend, I must be mad lol.

Hope you enjoyed your time with the Hoover and the indesit is up and running again, at least now Paul can sleep easy knowing it's back safe in storage.

Thanks for some great photos and a fun thread, Mathew

Its bloody not back in store Mathew...

...its still plumbed in and in use!

Saw it at the weekend just gone, doing some very well behaved 1300rpm spins.
We have now added some improvements to the powder drawer to stop it rattling at high rpms. Its wonderful what tape can do! am also armed with blue tack as well.

Myself and Mike are off to pick up some machines this saturday (you know what they are - dont spill the beans!), so will let mike have a watch of the ecologic, then rob will probably switch back to Indesit use on sunday.

That is the plan anyway. whether it actually happens like that is another thing.

hope all is well with your good self - will let you know what goes on over the weekend!

cheers
paul

Hi Chris.

Should the plans pan out as expected, I will unveil one of the machines on Sunday-ish.

The other one is being saved for unveiling over the UK bank holiday weekend, at the end of August.

Fingers crossed all goes as planned.

New Hoover Washer

Hi guys.

Just received my Which mag and there is a small article on the new Hoover Dynamic, model, DYN10146P. They have a 10kg wash load, say they can take a duvet. The only downside is they say Hoover washers get a low reliability score.

Paul

Does the New Dynamic look like the Vision HD's? I saw a new Hoover Optima in Currys the other day and it looks horrid. It's styled like the VHD but without the colourful bits, it's totally white with grey writing i think. Most boring.

Shame as i think theyve used these machines to replace the Nextras, which i thought were verrrrry pretty. :-(

Just my 2 pence worth!
