HOTPOINT MICROTRONIC £50

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

hotpoint 95622

I was about to go for it then it was gone, maybe some one from here has saved it, or maybe it will be re-listed.

I wonder....

if the buyer paid the full £50. It did seem abit high given that it'd be tricky or not even possible to repair.

Paul - you need to let Rob do one of his occasional boil washes in the 95842, that'll give it a good workout ;-)

mysterious...

So it sold in the end?

A bit of a mystery, hmmm, I think someone here must have bought it, and they've yet to come forward, as it would mean nothing to anyone else except for us here. Anyway its nice to see some past material on Microtronics, like the brochures of the Microtronic (the 18780 would be worth £1500 now, but would defo be worth that much) including the said preserved 95842 by Paul. I know from a previous thread that an X2000 was saved though...

£1500 for a Microtronic! Miele money by today's standards...a very interesting way of looking at it, Ultimafan - I've been playing with the online inflation calculator this morning as a result. Seems I need to spend £500 on an entry level machine to get something similar to my current Hotpoint (or even the one before it); think that equates to a Siemens IQ300...it's probably a flawed comparison though!

All this info on the Microtronics (18-series) rather makes me wish I had been in more of a position to bid! Alas, the colaboration idea hit the rocks on the issue of storage (or lack thereof). Hey ho...circumstances inevitably change eventually...

If I remember correctly, the Microtronic X2000 that had been saved met a watery grave when the internal fill pipe gave way and soaked the electrics. Still, it's nice to have something else for someone to work towards acquiring!

Hi Christopher.
The panel isnt mine but belongs to a mate of mine, who acquired it as part of a random spare parts purchase.

As I mention earlier, I am not sure which one its from but have an inkling that its off an 18873.

Paul
p.s the matching dryers still come up occasionally. Below is mine and Robs 17760 and mike is the proud owner of a 2nd version 17660...

Hi Lee.

You wrote 'you need to let Rob do one of his occasional boil washes in the 95842, that'll give it a good workout ;-)'

Due to a change in machine circumstances at my place, the Microtronic will probably be heading to Crewe soon. As such, I am worried!

lol.

Hi Alex.

It really is amazing to think what the vintage machines cost in real terms. None of them were cheap really - even the cheap ones.

The microtronics are still out there - I read recently about a 18780 being written off! Very upsetting.

Paul
ps. the page below shows the 1st version 17660 Reversomatic and Creasecare Dryer. What became the buzzer on/off button on the 2nd version 17660 and the later 17760, was a Mains on/off switch on this 1st version.

To LIAM!

Sorry Liam.

Reply #45 was a response to your goodself.

I have been dealing with Hotpoints for the last 3 days and now I am getting peoples names muddled too!

Hi James.

The lack of slanted dryer is probably due to space constraints within the cabinet, compounded by the fact that a Microtronic style plastic facia plate might warp/melt with the heat from the halo, the top of which would be centimetres away from it.

Retaining the standard style, metal facia plate would sort these issues.

Might not be the actual reasons, but could be possibilities.

Agree with your sentiment that a 'proper' matching dryer would also have looked rather smart.

Paul
p.s just noticed that the button pack we have fitted to the facia below, is from a version 1 model 17660, as the orange button is a mains on/off button and not a buzzer on/off button, the latter of which would be symbolised with a musical note.

"Halo"

Weren't the "New" and "Next Generation" Dryers of the same contruction with the "Halo" heater? How did the plastic fascias not melt on them? They then switched to the Creda style "Aquarius Drying System" circa 1990 where the heater was moved to the back. That design is still here today.

James.

Hi James.

Good point!

As I say - I am probably clutching at straws:-)

Another one and probably more of a reason than the other ideas - trying to fit a standard timer arrangemnt block on the back of a slanted facia.
Plus the standard dial wouldnt fit at that angle.

However were the dryers to have been sensor dryers, then full button control could have been employed.

Its probably a simple case of just how far they were willing to go with them, whilst maintaining degrees of standardisation with the run of the mill models.

Paul
p.s I drew this Liberator Microtronic way back in 2007 - will have to try and doctor it to produce a Microtronic style dryer.

No worries Paul......

I knew who you meant & could see you were in demand trying to reply to everyone seperately, so no bother :)

Eeek, that 95842's gonna get abit hot under its microchips if it makes its way to Crewe ;-)

Haha no i'm sure it'll be fine, it might aswell get some use as it looks like it's in a fit & healthy state & i'm sure the newer(ish) Hotpoint has had enough of Ms Stubbs 'Whites that Get the Neighbours Talking' & is in need of some R&R in the garden shed!

Liam.

...

I thought the lack of an angled fascia on the 17660 meant that it could be paired with the two dial machine 18580/18680 I think? (the one with the spin reduction dial) as well as the microtronic. Its successor the "New Generation" 93730 was also designed to go with the spin slider 95620 and the microtronic 95840. I think the true sensor dryers came in 1987 with the Hotpoint Microprofile, but I'd love to imagine a Microtronic sensor dryer would have looked like.

Absolutely.

By maintaining the flat facia deffo meant that it could be a match for the variable machine, though when I was a nipper I always saw the standard 17460 alongside the 18580.

I think Hotpoints intention was for the 17660 and later 17760 to be Microtronic matches, with the 17460 and later 17560 being matches for the 18340/18380 and 18580.

The Reversomatic dryer was introduced at the same time as the Microtronics and was seldom far away from the Microtronic in Hotpoints advertising with the advert below, courtesy of Mike's collection, being from a Good Housekeeping magazine dated March 1981...
