Hi all,
I seem to be on a roll altogether recently, especially where it concerns Hotpoint's offerings of the 1970s!
This was a very coincidental Gumtree find. I had been searching on Google about the Best Buy range of 1978/1979 that was based on the final Liberator models and when I typed in "Hotpoint 1700" I noticed a picture that I had never seen before. Prior to this I was only aware of one picture of a 1700 that had been posted by Matchbox Paul here so I clicked on this new picture and I was redirected to a Gumtree listing which I very quickly pursued and the delivery took place yesterday.
So here it is - the Hotpoint Super Dryer 1700 from the Liberator Best Buy range of 1978/1979. It's virtually immaculate apart from the Best Buy banner which I hope to reproduce and the kickstrip which has had one too many encounters with a mop it seems, nothing some spray paint in the correct colour won't sort. It works perfectly too, but I'll open it up and clean out any fluff etc. I'm absolutely chuffed with this one and it will look lovely with my 1509/05 once that's sorted soon. The date code is 12 which equates to December 1978 which means this is an early one as the Best Buy range was introduced in December 1978! Does anyone have the user handbook for this? It's probably just a reprint of the 1701 handbook but it would be nice to have.
Now where is that 1827?! The adverts will be up and the looking glass dusted off. To anyone who stumbles across this thread from anywhere else in the worldwide web and happens to own a 1827 which looks like this dryer but with four buttons and a detergent dispenser - Please do not hesitate to contact me wherever you are if you wish to sell your 1827 to a good home where it will be loved.
That's all for now,
James
