I let mine open for 3 days after use.

During the humid part of the summer, sometimes I will just leave them open all week.

By looking at some of the pixs of the inner tubs of the Rollermatics, one has to wonder if the orignal owner just shut the lid after each use.

With a top loader I usually leave them open overnight and then close it. With a front loader I leave the door open for 3 days to make sure that the bellows has time to dry out properly. And I rotate the drum as well once a day to get the moisture out.

I always leave my door and lid open on both the FL and TL.If im not home and someone leaves clothes in it or the door closed on the FL i run a rinse then open it.

at least, sometimes 3 on the Rollermatics because they tend to hold more leftover water. I close them up after that so I can enjoy the "Frigidaire Smell" when I open it up to do a load.

I always leave the lid open after washing each week. In doing so, I've never had problems with odors, either in the wash tub or on my clothes. The washer is in a second-floor utility room where no one sees it anyway.

When I first moved to the Twin Cities and was renting a room from a senior citizen couple, the gal always closed the lid on her Maytag Dependable Care when she finished washing. My clothes and bath towels picked up a dirty, musty smell from washing in that machine. It was awful, but I didn't dare say anything since she was a touchy, moody woman and World War III could've resulted.

Of the in-house machines, Most of mine stay open except when company's comin'. BUT, The unimatic and the LK in the kitchen stay closed, except of course when in operation ;=> Have no trouble with odors or mold or mildew. The garge machines stay bone dry from the heat in summer, and the cold in winter, and their lids are kept closed because they look so cool all lined up and ready for business. 72GE, 77WP, 62 FRIGI, 55BLkstone W&D, 68 Easy.

On my machines.....

The 12 year old Frigidaire FL door stays open 3-4 inches all the time when not in use. I've NEVER used any sort of cleaner like Affresh etc, or run it empty to do a "cleaning". I've NEVER had any problems with mold, mildew or any "lovely odors". I also usually use chlorine bleach when washing whites in hot. Maybe this helps?

The lids on top loaders in the "collection" get left open usually about 24 hours after use so any residual moisture in the tub can evaporate.

All my machines have their lids left open after a cycle. They stay that way until the next use. I always leave the door of a F/L ajar a bit when I'm done.

Our 2 TL'ers have the lids propped open with old liquid detergent measuring caps at the end of the washday. We've been doing this as long as we've been married (11yrs next month), and no odors or signs of rust.

The Frigidaire front loader, I always pull the dispenser drawer out just a bit and leave the door slightly open all the time. My LK DD, I never left the lid up, felt it had enough circulation around the base of the cabinet. Never an odor issue. The GE FF, left the lid up for 24 to 48 hours.

Top loaders- the lids have never been shut. They stay open during and after use.

Front loaders- the lids are shut during use and open until the dryer finishes drying the load that was washed in them (Sliding dispenser drawers are always left ajar until the next use. Flip open dispenser drawers like on the Neptune are/were always left completely open at all times.)

In my new front loader I leave the door agar with a rolled up tea towel to keep from messing up the door and I pull out the detergent drawer and put it into the dish drainer to drain and dry.

Frigidaire front-loader: Leave door open a few inches all the time; same with the dispenser drawer.

Frigidaire top-loader: Leave lid open at least overnight. Machine isn't air-tight, so I don't worry about mold, etc.

I have always left my lids and doors wide open until the next use. My washers smell fabulous inside and my wash comes out smelling and staying fresh until I take it off to wash again.
