Title may be a bit confusing, but it will get more clear.
Today, it was bedding wash day and as usual, I had 2 pretty much simmilar loads. A dark 2 set load and a white 2 set load. The whites went in the AEG on Cottons+Prewash+Extra-Rinse+Super-Short (said to take 2:03, took 2 hours), the darks in the Panasonic on Cottons Rinse+ 60° with an extra rinse, took about 2h as supposed.
Now, after 30min of mainwash in the Pani, something interresting happend: As the load was tumbling, it balled up. Thats normal. But all out of nothing, the machine turns slower and slower. And ends up in the delicate rythm! And adds more water! What happend?
The first time, she missensed a load. Small loads are tumbeld faster, bigger loads tumble slower, bulky itmes even slower. And as the dampers are going, the load caused more movement of the outer tub and this caused the 3d-Sensor to activate the bulky rythm!
But now on, the AEG finished first. Put the load in the dryer, start a cycle, go away, return and be shocked! The load "finished". And was damp. Restarted the cycle. Drum light stays out, drum doesn't turn, no heating, just that humming as the motor could not turn. And no condens pump action! Just a dead, humming machine. Nice, isn't it? Still 2 months warranty left and the 3rd repair on wednesday.
So, we have the bedding of 4 in our hanging room and tomorrow, the wash of 6 will be added! After all, this Siemens was even more annoying than the Miele at its end!
 
I thought bulky items tumble faster (in order to be thoroughly agitated) and lightweight load are tumbled slower (to keep them from sticking to the drum).


Too bad your dryer is giving you a hard time. Mine is still purring along - knock on wood. I wonder what happened. Even if the belt broke, the pump should still be running. Maybe it overheated and tripped a thermostat?

But the rythm was pretty much like the big items cycle! Or, like a big full load!
Anyway, I am pretty turned off of BSH. Dryer didn't dry not that good, Dishwasher is not the best at all and the induction hoob broke after 3 years of daily use. But we'll see what the service guy says on wednesday...
 
Well, no. After the load I set it on when it stoped working, I did not run another test. The beddding was in the back of the tub (I usually just throw them in) so there was no contact to the sensorbars. But I'll run the selftest on monday!
What really drives me crazy is the fault Combo. No light in the tub (an the bulb is OK!), no drum action and no condens draining action...
 
Well, maybe a fuse tripped indeed. When we had that happen to our lousy AEG dryer, you could still turn it on but pressing the start button practically shut the machine off.
 
Today, I ran through the service cycle and it gave out no fault code!
Further, I found out something has to be wrong with the startcapacitors. I overran the doorswitch (with a toothpick) and tryed to turn the drum manually. And than, everything worked fine (this way, the dryer even reverses if you turn it in the opposite direction than usually) except the pump, the drum light and the heater. So I finally conclude that sonething has to be wrong with the PCB!
 
That system you describe in your original post sounds a bit strange.
Surely if its a larger load, it should tumble faster, not slower. If its a small load it should surely tumble slower, so items don't distribute?
My Hotpoint for instance turns at up to almost distribute during the wash when large load is detected, but smaller load does a more medium drop&roll type tumble (on Cottons).

The Humming could be the motor struggling, though I guess is the control panel is faulty, as mentioned above, larger load faster tumbles?
 
@glendfieldmark1: I thimk you miss understood: Dryer was Brocken, washer just behaved strange!
And now, the service left. He thought he was at the hidden camera: 2 cabels were diconnected (heater and motor capacitor), but the main fault was a broken capacitor on the PCB what caused the not working drumlight, the not working condens pump and finaly the not working heater!
 
My 2pence worth...

glenfieldmathk1, I just realised, it could actually be supposed to do slower tumbles to allow the water to drop to the centre of the drum rather than going around in the outer edges of the load.

I noticed that in the Hoover also does slow and extremely long tumbles when it has a very large load. It hasn't happened very often, but when it does happen, the rinse pattern is different too... as it takes bucket loads of water! So, that's how I came to conclude that the slow and long tumbles are associated to a bigger or high absorbency load.

Naturally, I'm not 100% positive on this... the Hoover manual doesn't mention anything... so it's a matter of getting to know and recognise certain patterns through experience. At first I thought the washer would behave in such a way when it detected a colour-run situation or a high soil level, but, having read this thread I'm thinking of other possible causes! Well... I'll keep an open mind... maybe this will be elucidated further ;-)
