Do any of you guys use one of those hand-held lawn vacuums? Well, I hate using it because of the dust it stirs up. I had a low blood glucose level (49) and I get good ideas from them sometimes. I had the idea to wash the bag of mine in my WP Duet on the hand wash cycle. I added extra fabric softener to the rinse thinking that since too much FS can make your towels less absorbent, I thought it would help trap the dust. Well, it worked. Less dirt in the air!!!! Yahhh!!! It also smelled like lilac.....Bill in Az.....

hmmm, interesting solution!
We have a Toro blower/vac and it has a pretty thick canvas bag, so dust is usually not an issue. But thorns poking through the bag are!

Great idea, Bill.
I wonder if washing cloth vacuum cleaner bags with a lot of fabric softener does the same? They sure would smell better!

hypoglcemia unawareness

Hi, Lawrence, I do have super hypoglcemia unawareness. About 5 yrs. ago before I started the insulin pump, I drove home from work with a BG of 16!!!!. It is only a miracle that I didn't cause an accident. It took me 5 minutes to figure out which key would open my door. Im very happy to have my Mark, My Presa Canario dog and my Pit Bull, Sara. Without them I would be SOOOOOOOO DEAD....Bill in Az....

What units of measure do you use for Blood Glucose?

Over here we use mmmol, normal is between about 2.5 and 7mmol.

My mum's been diabetic since 1961 (She's now 49) and everything had been stable up until her mid 40's (Albeit with 9 injections per day), then all of a sudden she was having constant highs and lows, with very little stability in between.

She qualified for a pump trial, and now she averages out at about 4mmol on average and she may now experience a hypo 2 or 3 times a month. Unlike the 2 or 3 times a week it had reached.

The downside to a pump for her, is that she's now less aware of an impending hypo, however after almost 3 years, she now takes it all in her stride and loves it.

The upside is no more having to eat if she's sick, only 1 or 2 punctures a week instead of 9 a day, she's a very happy camper :)

She still has her original injection device from 1961, its a big chrome gun, and it uses glass syringes and 2" long needles, both of which needed to be boiled after each use.

You'd attach the needle to the syringe, fill them and expell the air. Insert them into the gun, pull the spring loaded plunger back, insert the needle into the skin, and pull the trigger forcing all the insulin in, in one foul swoop.

Its pretty scary thats what she had to use 3 times a day for almost 15 years, until disposable syringes became an affordable option.

I've washed lots of vacuum bags and have never used fabric softener. I've always thought that since it's a petroleum product, it would gunk up the fibers too much and you'd lose efficiency in a vacuum. Any thoughts vacuum gurus?

Washing the lawn-vacuum bag is a good idea though, those things are nasty-dusty!

yes

i think the added oil would make the cloth *soak up* the fine dust. hold onto it more. you would shake it, but the dust would be glued on.
