Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Just a suggestion...

Dustin, why don't you shut off her water heater pretending it's broken down, and tell her you'll have to wait at least two weaks for the replacement part? After two weeks of cold showers maybe she'll be convinced of the benefits of washing at least in warm water, LOL.

or just use a cup of lysol in the mainwash ive been adding a bit of either mistolin or lysol along with detergent and an extra rinse no smells but then again i air dry or better said hang dry the clothes

HEATING WATER

A microwave oven is not an efficient way to heat quantities of water, almost 1/2 of the electricity used goes off as waste heat, an electric water heater is almost 100% efficient. In most areas of the country propane and electric will cost about the same when used for water heating. Natural gas is usually 1/2 as much as the other two and the real bargain is possibly a heat pump or of course solar.

Yeah I have many friends that wash everything together in cold water just to save time. I'm like, seriously? That's why your whites look like crap and your clothes are covered in lint. I once did some laundry for my friend I was visiting in San Diego. He had to work the day I arrived and I took my dirty clothes since I didn't have time to wash them before I left. I washed mine with his the way I do my own laundry. When he got home he noticed the difference in how much better they looked. When he asked what my secret was, I just told him, I seperate them like your supposed to and use warm or hot water! lol.

Yes, do your own laundry. When we moved house back in 2000, I got my own bathroom and, consequently, I bought a laundry basket for my clothes.

My mother washes everything in warm water (104°F), does not use Extra Rinse, which I ALWAYS do and does not really care for the dosage instructions on the back of the deterget box. So... I do my own laundry. Two loads a week - a warm one for colors and a hot one for whites. Doesn't take a whole lot of time; folding takes the longest.

My girlfriend's mother is even worse about doing laundry. She basically only sorts by color. For example: a pink towel, pink socks and pink lingerie would be washed in one cool load - because the lingerie (so she thinks) can't take hot water. *yikes*

Bottom line: a few weeks ago, my GF got her own laundry basket, too. Now, I am washing her laundry and all of the family's towels the way things are supposed to be washed. Period. I also run the washer through regular cleaning cycles when her parents ain't at home.

Finally, here's a picture of a Maytag Neptune front loader that was used for cold-water-washing only. That brown stuff is not rust - it's mold. The person who took those pictures said they switched to warm/hot water after that and they never had this problem again.

Propane cost a lot of money to have delivered to Cherry Log as well. Filling the tank for winter was HIGH!

In the early 1990's natural gas was "de-regulated" in Atlanta and the cost tripled overnight. It continued to climb ever-after. Even now my friends who still live in the metro area are paying high gas rates.

Here in Roanoke the gas is much more reasonable and lots of country folks still use propane.

Please! I did whites for a clueless friend (with tons of HOT water, detergent, bleach phosphates, etc!) and there was SCUM in the sink (where the water pumps out) from the softener build-up and body oils and skin cells and God-knows-what else.

The clothes were a lovely shade of yellow and/or gray when I started........

well...

I did all of our laundry yesterday in HOT water with powdered Tide HE,original scent, (hoping that the formula is different than liquid and we are not allergic to it) and Clorox 2 and everything came out perfect! no stains, no bad smells and everything smells good! I used 3 tablespoons of Tide and the same amount of Clorox 2 powder. My Mom didnt complain because the clothes were so clean!!! THANK YOU EVERYBODY!!!!!!

I can't believe how many people use cold/cold for their laundry.
We use with hot/warm or warm/warm. Clothing seems to rinse better when rinsed in warm water.

My dermatologist said to wash underwear in hot water with bleach periodically. Some bacteria can survive warm washing and drying to live and irritate you another day. I personally have found this to be the case.
