Well here I go. In search for either a Maytag A50, a Hoover TwinTub or dare I dream, a Speed Queen TwinTub.  White would be ideal, but any color would be OK but coppertone. Within reasonable driving  distance from New York City. Thanks in advance.

if you do get a hoover

hello ultramatic, if you do find either a hoover510(white) or a 512(copper) I still have a few parts left over from when I was into them. they are around, just be patient. the hoover are very simple and quite a lot of fun. I sold my last two a few years ago. good luck, email me if you want any of the parts. thanks Bill

I see I have competition!

Looking for a Hoover TT also. SQ is an Awesome dream. Imagine! There was a Hoover upstate NY not to long ago. Someone snagged it before I could even arrange shipping!

Stephen,

I think I saw that same Hoover that you're referring to.
I'm not in the market for one, but I like looking at what's for sale out there.
It seemed to be in really nice condition, if it's the one I'm thinking of. Sorry you didn't get it.

Louie If you can get a Maytag A50 you won’t be disappointed.  The one I had was a great little washing machine.  The dual reversing impellers really did a super job in washing and rinsing.

Louie my A50 was just like the one in your original post.  It really was a gem.

For a while when I had it my brother lived with me and he loved using it.  I only had a full size bed on those days and I could wash a full sized blanket in it with no problem.

Its the dual reversing impellers that make the difference.  And the loads were never tangled either.  Also, the spinner must have been at least 1000 rpm and sure got the water out of the laundry.  I had a Whirlpool compact dryer in the kitchen and vented it out the window when in use.  Most loads dried in about 40-45 mins.

I hope you’ll be successful in finding an A50.  They are a fun and efficient  machine.

You’re so welcome Louie!  But to answer you question, I don’t believe there would be any way to permanently hookup an A50.

There are no water inlet valves.  The machine came with a detachable rubber fill hose that the user pushes onto the most convenient faucet where the machine will be used.  I suppose if you had a dedicated area with a sink that has a threaded faucet you could attach a regular washer fill hose and leave it in the sink.  But that wouldn’t be a real “hookup”.

Anyway, the A50 is a very fun machine to use.  I used to be able to do my full weeks laundry in an hour or less, much like using a wringer, only the high speed spinner really gets the water out to where the laundry dries very quickly if you’re using a regular dryer.

I attached a link with the A50 owners manual so you can get a good idea just how it works and how to correctly use an A50.

Good luck in your quest!

Eddie

Best Compact Vintage Portable Washers

Hoover was probably the most popular of the TTs, The MT is quieter while spinning than a Hoover and the MT is the most compact.

If you have a little more room the SQ TT is the largest and is not as hard on clothing as the MT when washing and is by far the most serious TT.

For a great 2nd Washer I would get a portable 1973-1986 Whirlpool automatic, I have used Wringer Washers and TTs and they get old very fast when you have to manually control every step of the process.
