Hello again everybody!

Alas, my friends Whirlpool AWM328 got replaced after about 9 years of labour. A truly great machine. They ordered a new machine: An Indesit WIXE 127(I think!). Ok i thought. So they put it on a maintenance wash on prog 7 (Flash Clean @ 60c) as they had just got it. Although it didn't do a spin after the main wash and the second rinse wash rather short, it used alot of water which is good and it seemed to perform well. So i went round to visit them today and they had a load of washing. They load the detergent, load the clothes, close the door and press the power button. Nothing!

No lights or action. Narda. They try pressing it again, they move the selector knob, they press the buttons under the LCD display. Noting stil. Totally dead. It had only been used 3 times. The socket and fuse were fine. So back to Curry's it goes. I will update as soon as something happens.

I personally think it is a complete joke. £180 down the drain. Our Hotpoint is a year and a quarter old and barely and problems. A fantastic machine. I really thought this Indesit would be great too. Clearly not. A pathetic excuse at reliability i'm afraid.

There's my two pence worth. Any experiences with Indesit in the past? If so, i would love to hear them!

Thanks!

Well sorry that has happened to your friend but paying less than £200 pound for a Inde-point washing machine!.

If you get more than 2 years out of the machine your doing very well. Landfill.

Im not supprised in the slightest.

Eek....

Whilst regardless of price, one would obviously expect a machine to manage more than 3 cycles, im not surprised that it hasn't.

There are a fair few Indesits out there that have managed a decent lifespan, around 4-5 years, but there's also alot that have packed up after 2 years.

It seems completely hit and miss as to what sort of quality you get & the amount of use doesn't necessarily effect the lifespan of them either. Some machines just seem decent (for what they are) and others are complete lemons. Complete lack of quality control in both the components and the factory assemmbling the machines themselves id guess.

£180 is bloody cheap though, especially with the current price rises. I'd say if they wanted to pay that little, they ought to have gone with a Beko. Even then, less than £200 isn't gonna get you very far. Might aswell get a decent second hand machine.

Why didn't they get a newer Whirlpool if the 328 (Inspirations?) had done them well? Whirlpool aren't great, but theyre better than Indesit and start around £240, which is reasonable.

Liam.

I bought an Indesit 1100 rpm for my brother from makro last year for £160 +vat and up to date its been ok with no problems. He only uses it 2-3 times a week and does at least one 6O degree wash.

We had an indesit approx 6 years back and it only lasted 13 months with major repairs in between but we were doing in excess of 5 loads a day. One common fault with our old one was the timer kept advancing on its own throughtout the wash, it just kept going around and around and you couldnt set a programme, then the motor went, twice, then the board was replaced as it had burnt out and was told by the engineer we were doing too many hot washes... lol some of the things the engineers come out with. Our old hottie was always doing 60 degree washes and had no problems.

Sadly tho back onto a seriuos note. Sadly as its said over and over on here, no machines are built to last past their warranty.

FL1012...

They didn't get a newer Whirlpool as they are quite complicated and over their budget.

Robliverpool...

I totally agree! It is sad.

A man from Currys is coming on Friday so i will report back on Saturday hopefully![this post was last edited: 6/1/2010-09:45]

Over Budget....

To be honest i reckon that if a £240-£260 Whirlpool is over budget they'd better just get a second hand machine from a reputable manufacturer.

The only new machine they can get for less than £240 that is half decent is Beko. Even then it'll be far from bomb proof. Everything else (Indesit, Haier, Haus, Bush) runs a high risk of leaving them feeling very short changed.

Now the Indesit repair man is coming Saturday because the one coming on Friday is ill!

FL1012...

They are getting it repaired. As I've said, when it worked, it was a fab machine! Hopefully, this is a one off!
