Hi all. I bought an Ionic Breeze Quadra for 10 dollars at a thrift shop a few months ago. I don't think it's working properly though. It gets dust on the grids, but I have a friend who has the same model and he also gets a layer of black film on his. Neither of us smoke, we both cook and use candles... the only difference I can imagine is that his is working properly and mine isn't. Anyone have a clue as to what might be going on? When mine gets enough dust on it, it starts making a hissing sound, and then the red light will come on several days later, but I never get a black film like my friend does or like they used to show on the commercial.

Thanks!

The only thing I can think of is that it's just not working. Those things sold for like $400 new I think, if not more. That could be why you got it so cheap. But I've never owned one, wanted to, but couldn't afford it to be able to tell you anything different. Hope you get to the bottom of it.

I had one, and I thought they did work. Just keep it away from the walls as the (static) electrically charged particles (that do escape being caught by the the filter plates) will blacken the walls.

I gave it away for that reason....something with the word "cleaner" in its function should not be dirtying, IMHO.

Do you both cook with the same fuel/energy source? How about hot water in the house or a dyrer in the house? Both the same?

Candles, unless bees' wax or (food) oil are nasty polluters of indoor air.

I got one for my mother...most of the dust that gets collected is light to dark gray and sometimes darker, but a good scrub gets it all shiny again, i also use the garage compressor air to blow out the machine inside...for any loose particles...but never realy a film, everything washes clean...
