Thanks for the Glaser-Steer video link! Yes, it's amazing what lurks on YouTube.

I'm not surprised GE cheapened the Glaser-Steer design. That seems to be what happens more often than not when a company gets bought out.

at one time radio stations used GE VR cartridges.Never tried one myself-just remember removing their preamps when new TT's were installed at the station-using Shure cartridges.
Glasser-Steers TT remember one in Jr High music class-the declutching of the platter during the change cycle.
and the GE cartridges above were mono-the station was upgrading to stereo.

This might be of interest. It's a reprint of an old article talking about phonograph cartridges. The first cartridge group profiled includes the GE VR. They also talk about crystal/ceramic cartridges, which were common on record changers.
